Does the cost of gas really get to you sometimes?
I'm paying like $40 bucks a week for gas + car payments + insurance + food. I'm selling my 06 SI and I'm gonna buy a new FIT. What do you guys think? I've gotta pay for school and I feel like this will be a good decision. Once I'm done with college I can always get a better car.
wha'ts $3... it's almost $4 here.
you're paying only $40 a week on gas? $160 a month? LOLOL...I pay a minimum of $350 a month.
Sigh

Gas prices suck but we all knew (should have at least) that the Si requires premium so we get stuck with an extra 20-30 cents a gallon, oh well, i'm still going to pay so i'm not going to bitch that much.
Let's get some perspective here. Say you drive 20,000 miles/yr, gas costs $4/g (we're about $3 here).
the $$ you save over an entire year of 30mpg vs 40 mpg is a whopping $667. Barely covers books for a semester...
For that, you want to drive a FIT???

Last time I put gas in my car was the weekend of May 12th, I'm at a little more than a 1/4 tank, and it cost me $25 to fill up. With prices now it'll probably cost me almost $30 to fill it, but I don't drive an Si
Well if he still owes money on the Si, and buys a Fit he'll still be paying car payments but at a lower cost per month. So he'll save a bit more i bet...Sometimes that little bit of saved money goes a long way, I know where he's coming from being college and paying for a car sucks, but you just gotta make it work...It beats driving a beater or walking everywhere.

You got to do what you got to do. If buying a FIT gets you what you need, then at least your smart enough to do the right thing.
Gas is $3.79 a gallon for 91 octane and $5.35 a gallon for 100 octane (at here it is). I run 30% 100 octane because the of Supercharger (don't need to, but want too). I use 20 gallons of gas a week (since my son moved in). That's $85 week just in gas.
Trust me, if I was not old and well establish with a nice paying job and healthy portfolio, I would still driving a Honda DX. Even so, it is hard to see all that cash go out the exhaust pipe. I have no idea how students these days can afford the cars I see so many of them driving (SI, WRX, 350Z).
We can only hope that gas prices will go down some, sometime soon. Sooner or later "someone" is going to do something about the Oil Companies ripping off the people.
I would agree that Hybrids are great on gas mileage, but they are so bad on the environment its crazy. Yes, they emit less emissions, but how do you think they dispose of all those batteries? Not to mention the manufacturing toxins and pollutants generated in producing those batteries.
Anyway, do what you need to do for today. You will always have time later for the fun toys. Just might not have affordable gas to run them.

This might make you all cry.
In the Si, if I ONLY go to work and back everyday, I can make a 40$ tank of gas last 2 weeks.
If I drive my Malibu only to work, we're looking at 70$ a week.
Thank god for living 12 miles from work

thats why i kept my old car. I dont drive it like a damn race car anymore cuz i no how slow it realy is after driving the SI. It gets 35mpg or more and a tank lasts about 2 weeks or more.
gas prices suck. plain and simple. its going to get worse. ALOT worse before it gets any better. pretty soon the cheap gas is going to be just as expensive as premium is now and then u still spend the same amount of money except u drive a fit. i like the fit, dont get me wrong, but i will work harder and eat less to get to drive my SI.
what i dont understand, is that now that the price of oil has gone down, gas prices go UP?! cnn broke it down the other day where the price comes from, and only about half or a little less came from oil itself. a nice little chunck came from advertising. why the expletive do u need to advertise gasoline? do they think we'll forget that our cars run on gas? if they want to promote how good their fuel is, put it up at the pump and stop wasting money on stupid *** commercials!
gas prices suck and are going to get worse. i usually spend about $275-300 a month on gas. so take into the car note, insurance note, utility bill (another $200 easily), and everything else, i eat a whole lotta ramen noodles these days
