This might seem very odd but, when I bought my CRX about 8 years ago it came equipped with OE power steering. Im guessing is was added as a factory option. Steering rack, pump, and the whole sha'bang.

Does anyone else have this feature equipped?

I was told that the person who originally purchased the vehicle had this installed for his daughter who couldn't muscle the steering wheel.

But this is just hearsay and I don't have any proof that he really had this work done or if there are other CR-X's with this option.

 

I have NEVER seen a usdm CRX with power steering.......pics please?

Its a little rusty and crappy looking right now. But I assure everyone that this car will be fully rebuilt and restored by the end of summer.

 

looks like that car was soaked in water and left to rust. ive never seen the power steering tho..

 

yeap that's the thing. Power steering reservoir, and hardline coming out of top the compressor, right behind the radiator support.

My CRX has oem power steering but is from the EDM market. It's a SOHC 1.4L. Some also had aircon.

What I have never seen, anyware, was DOHC Vtec Sir/i-vt, with power steering. I've seen them with ABS, aircon, but never power steering.

Hahaha, thats actually the worst part of the whole car. I already picked up all new brackets, bolts, and accessories for it. It should be a nice write up to post here while its be worked on.

 

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that this was added by a previous owner and not the dealership. And especially not the factory.

I thought the same at first. But then I looked closer and realized that the steering rack is different then a Non P/S rack and actually is lubricated by the P/S setup, more like the DA. I just figured it might of been to much work for a normal Joe without factory training and knowledge.

Pretty much the whole reason for me asking if there are more out there.

Some European countries had them with PS. Saw a dutch (i think) imported CRX iVT with it.

 

never seen a canadian CRX with power steering has to be added on with OEM parts or maybe a EDM front end swap???

 

just take the rear crossmember froma civic and call it a day...anyone ca do that and it will look OEM cause it is, just not for your chassis. It is a bolt on afair

 

I've seen lots of civics with PS. I'm sure CRX aren't rare either. It just wasn't that needed for such a light car. My parts car had PS in it. Sold the entire unit for 100$. I've seen then in scrap yards in DX's mostly.

The USDM CRX chassis never came with power steering. It wasn't a 'dealer option' ever either. However, the EF8's, the SiR's did indeed come equipped with power steering. So either it was mix and matched from a DA chassis like you mentioned or they went the extra mile and got something imported. But all in all crx's DID have power steering in other parts of the world..just not in the US and i'm certain canda didn't get them either. And i'm pretty certain the 250 odd Canadian 91 Si-Se's didn't have them either.

 

I thought the EX Sedan had power steering that was a direct fit for a CRX if anyone was so inclined.

 

They came from the factory that way . Seen quite a few CDM civic's/crx's (mostly automatic though) with the factory PS option.

 

Does anyone know what the number for the Honda Service Hotline is?

They should be able to provide me with the info needed as long as I provide them with my VIN right ?

I used them once before for the Wagon. It had an old distributor and seat belt recall that they still honored after 17 years.

ive never seen power steering though. that is kind of cool.

Ive actually been collecting everything needed for about 2 years now. So i'm pretty much at that point of dropping it off at my buddies body shop and having the extensive work done. I'm not a body guy and don't try to be, but the shop is on a serious note.

It should be a great thread to see here. Every nick and nack is already prepared. Just finishing on the new block and setup now.
