I need to remove the studs from my transmission case so that I can put my prelude transmission mount on there and not the accord one it is configured for now. How do I go about getting them out? Thanks.
What he said. Take the 2 nuts and put one on the stud backwards and the other on normally onto same stud. Use 2 wrenches to jamb them together then use the lower one to turn the stud out.

I guess I am not getting the concept. First off how do you put the nut on backwards? I put both nuts on and cranked them together and started turning the bottom one and them both turned, thus not doing anything. I am not seeing how the two nuts are going to be able to produce the torque to turn the stud loose.
Install the nut on upside-down:
Screw it off, take it and flip it 180˚ purpendicular to the axis of rotation so that the integrated washer/flange part of the nut it facing away from the transmission case.
Then take a 2nd nut of the same size and thread pitch and install it on the same stud in the fashion that you normally would.
The two nuts should meet about half way down the threads of the stud. Take 2 wrenches, one on the upper nut and the lower nut and tighten them together (turn the lower nut counter-clockwise, turn the upper nut clockwise). This is known as jambing them together.
They should now be stuck together in the middle of the bolt.
Now take your wrench and mate it with the flats of the lower nut and once engaged turn the lower nut in a counter-clockwise fashion. (remember: righty-tighty, lefty-loosey)
Troubleshooting:
If the stud does not turn and both nuts do then take your two wrenches and tighten them against themselves more and try to unscrew the stud again.
If you can't keep the nuts on the stud from moving then try some carb cleaner to degrease everything and reinstall the nuts. if they STILL move then loctite them after degreasing.
You can also try heating up the tranny case with a torch as a last resort but dont' warp the cacse from too much heat.
After that get some vice grips and clamp down on those bitches and twist them out.
If you don't get it by tonight I will post a pic.

Yep, if you get the nuts tight enough againt eachother the stud will come out. Try what Pirate said with some Loctite and just torque the **** out of those nuts before you try to loosen the stud again.

Alright, thats what I did the first time, but it didn't seem right. I'll keep trying at it to get it done. Thanks Pirate, you are a wealth of knowledge.
I will have to pick up some loctite and degreaser.

Well I tried threadlocker and that didn't work.
I got a propane torch and heated the case and that didn't do anything.
I am tempted to just lop the studs off and put new ones in the holes.

Go to the hardware store and get some better nuts, those mount nuts have that tapered opening crap, if you crank the things on hard enough you can definitely get those studs out.
Pirate I love the stud removal writeup
lol
worst case go with the vise grips and a bottle of whiskey, get vigorous with it.

I agree, maybe its time to crack open the bushmills or jameson from ireland, lol.
Where do they keep the stud remover in sears usually? I am going to go look in a little bit.

Beware the stud remover from Sears will render the stud useless, as it'll tear up the threads.
If you can't get them tight enough by hand, tighten one of the nuts with an impact. Be careful, though, you can stretch the stud doing this.

I got one of the studs out. But the part that screws into the tranny is too wide.
Has anyone ever moved the studs around on the case before or have you just taken them out? If I order studs for a prelude mount in those locations, will the stud be a different size than the ones I have now?

From looking at part number, the little stud and the big ones are different, naturally. I wonder what the size is of the little one, if it will fit in the other holes or not.
The stud sizes should be the exact same.....I don't see why they changed them...
Anyways, if you can't get the studs to work, just go to the hardware store and get some bolts that will fit, thats usually easier instead anyways.
