engine rattle
I've had my 02' f4i for about three weeks now and i have noticed a rattle coming from the engine around 5k rpms. I havent been able to pinpoint it but two people have told me its most likely the cct (cam tensioner), and that it needs to be adjusted or replaced, because the stock unit is a piece of trash. Has anybody had this problem or replaced the cct on an f4i?
Oh yeah, classic cam chain tensioner (CCT) problem. The stock units are junk and go out at about 15k miles or so depending on your own situation. You options are to have another stock part installed, buy an APE manual cam chain tensioner unit, or possibly to modify the stock unit to work better. Do a search
Yup. I had to replace the CCT on my 03 F4i at 8k miles. I replaced it with another stock one. A lot of people get an APE manual tensioner that you have to adjust. Although adjusting it is a lot cheaper than replacing the stock one every time it breaks.
By the way, you're bike is fine mechanically, it's just an annoying noise.
