Default bypassing the heater control valve

There is a leak coming from the heater control valve on a 91 hatch, considering the hatch has a swapped p72 motor and boosting 10 pounds, and i dont have AC, would it be safe to assume that i can bypass the heater control valve and replace it with a small section of copper tubing?
