Default CA catalytic converter questions

99 Accord EX V6, coupe, auto.

I've searched, but didn't find anything. I plan to sell, since we just had a baby and the carseat won't fit in the backseat and the passenger still sit comfortably.

I've been getting the catalytic converter code.

This started happening recently....shortly after getting the EGR code. I had the EGR port cleaned at a local shop....then found out how easy it was to do.

Can I replace the catalytic converter myself? I've looked around at some online stores, but they seem to be confusing since I'm dealing with CA emissions.

Has anyone had any luck with aftermarket cats? I've read about bad results with the V6 and aftermarket cats. I would love a recommendation and some sound advice.

Thanks!

I've been looking at a replacement cat for my dad's Toyota. So far, Magnaflow and possibly Random Technology seems to be the only ones that may meet California OBD II requirements. (Random Technology does have some conflicting wording on there site...) Cali. requirements seem stricter than the other 49 states. They seem to have direct fit cats for certain Hondas.

Do a google search for their sites and dealers.

On the Random Tech site, it states: "Aftermarket converters are not legal for use on OBD2 vehicles in California."

I've found cats here:

DEC brand and Walker brand. I'm just concerned that I hear about the CEL not going off. I believe if the CEL won't clear in CA, that I will fail smog.

Thanks!

For my Accord, it's just the universal. It would need welded in. I'm hoping for a direct replacement bolt-in.

*EDIT* And it's $568 at Jegs!!!

Do you have to lift the engine to pull the cat or can you get to it easily?

So, is this forum dead, or is there just no one with experience on this subject?

Thank you.
