Honest question about altezza's
I hate them. Normally.
I saw them on a civic the other day. Didn't care for them very much, but I thought, what if the chrome crap inside the light was painted body colour? In the volkswagen world there's a mod called the Joey mod, I think because a guy named Joey took some body-coloured paint and painted all the chrome crap inside his headlights. Since the headlights are the "crystal-clear" type, you can see the individual lights and projectors. It looks very nice and costs about $5.00 to do. So I was thinking, maybe it wouldn't look so bad on the tail-lights if done correctly? Even better with a tinted cover. I'm also a newb here so maybe it's already been done and I'm unaware of it. If it has, can someone post some pics? I'd never consider them on my jalopy of a car, but was just curious to see what they'd look like.
Thanks.

altezzas are still altezzas, even after layers of paint.
these things are named after a toyota.
originality = zero.
not to mention they look like *** to me other than on the altezza.

Or maybe get the carbon fiber (style) ones, cause lightweight tails are what's going to get you that extra car length against that Mustang
It's better to spend your money on something that improves your engine performance and suspension. You can get headers, intake, strut bars, lowering springs, etc for the same money you spend on alteza lights. Just my .2
I'm so sick of altezza' s
I dont even like the stock one's anymore (ie; altima and is 300) . BTW any one been to sunset ford lately they sell f150's, f250's, focus's and probably the rest of there line up with altezza tail lights from the dealership, how gay is that

the color match looks okay but the overall tail light still just looks tacky and cheap to me. on the other hand I saw an ek hatch with the carbon fiber kind with the lenses removed and it looked pretty sick.
i have a golf very similar to yours and those lights look decent on a vw, there are a few better options for you though.
as far as the altezza questiuon goes, i let that trend pass me up and i'm pretty happy i did, they're on every p.o.s. out there. la is famous 4 them. every vato with 18" chrome rims and the mural of a cow/bull painted on the door rolls hard here, and you can't forget the window tassles either, or the multi-colored stickers pasted on every body pannel

Oh, I'd never put altezza's on. I was just curious because the headlight "crystal-clear" style with the body coloured paint on that chrome stuff looks great. But I'd never put altezzas on mine. I *was* looking at the Hella tinted rear lights for the Jetta but I think I'll pass considering they're something like $300 US.
I've wondered the same thing myself. I've yet to see Altezza's that look good, but I've seen several Integra Altezza styles that could look good if it weren't for all of the lame chrome. I don't know about Altezzas for Civics and others, but I bet there's at least one style that might look good if it weren't for the chrome.
However, I doubt you'll get a useful answer from people here or on any message board for that matter. Message boards often seem to have a lot of idiots who have nothing better to do than sit on their *** and flame people all day long. They like to get all upset when you so much as ask about doing something new and creative. If it's not some off-the-shelf crap that anyone can buy, they'll flame. Others are afraid of any appearance mods whatsoever and will flame and cry "rice" if you attempt to make your car look nicer. Don't listen to them, they have nothing worthwhile to contribute.
I've found that you might as well try a new idea rather than seek input from message boards, then post the results after you've done it. I'd be very interested to see how Altezzas look without the chrome. Maybe it will look good, maybe not, but it will definately be worth a look. In my opinion, the chrome is the #1 thing making them look bad. Let me know if you do it, I'd like to see it. I may try something like that myself. I'm not sure if you can easily get to the chrome inside Altezzas though.
