My prelude at Putnam Park
Hi Prelude Forum,
This weekend sucked! I lost an alternator on Saturday and wasn't able to take the green flag (and didn't even make it back to my spot in the paddock before the engine quit... ) Not only that, but I was driving slow, my car was all over the place due to old rear tires. I had a spare alternator so it wasn't too big of a deal, but I missed the race.
Sunday was very slightly better. I switched my rear tires for qualifying and picked up 2 seconds, which put me within a second of the polesitter Kelsey Smith in his S2000. However, a nasty electrical gremlin killed me after a couple laps. It happened in qualifying too, but it fixed itself so I had no idea what was going on. I now think it might be the ignition coil shorting out when its hot, I'm not sure. It's getting worse so it'll be easy to figure out.

Yep! That's Brad Smith with a similarly colored (but much prettier) F22 Prelude running H4. He's got power to weight issues compared to the H4 CRX Si cars. The Prelude minimum weight runs like 2600 lbs, the CRX is 2150. Ouch. I think the rules committee was afraid of his torque.

Yep! That's Brad Smith with a similarly colored (but much prettier) F22 Prelude running H4. He's got power to weight issues compared to the H4 CRX Si cars. The Prelude minimum weight runs like 2600 lbs, the CRX is 2150. Ouch. I think the rules committee was afraid of his torque.

Yep, 2 wires and the plug. I have mine mounted near the old battery spot. I have done 45min sessions @ 100% on 90* days w/o an issue.
Just welded a little plate to mount it to.

I don't want to steal his Thunder, but IIRC its an H23A1 block with H22A1 crank/rods, TypeS pistons, JUN cams, SMSP header, EuroR IM, and a whole ton of weight reduction. Made 219whp on a Dynojet tuned on S100.
--Although I still don't understand using the H23A1 block but not the crank/rods. Personally I would want the extra stroke and compression that the H23 crank/rods ould offer. 2.25 liter and 12:1cr sounds yummy with JUN Cams!!
I think the real winner in his setup is the EuroR gearing.....

Would you spin the H23 to 8500 RPM? Would any Honda piston fit with the JUN cams and 12:1? I guess that's been my blocking issue. I have a spare head now, I might give something like that a try.

But, yeah, same setup.Would you spin the H23 to 8500 RPM? Would any Honda piston fit with the JUN cams and 12:1? I guess that's been my blocking issue.

Not this week. Walt was busy playing H1 with the Northeast Honda Challenge, and the Team Honda Researh Honda Prelude is currently decommisioned, they only run 6 cars at a time (H1 Acura TL Type S, new H1 Civic Si, H4 DC2 Integra, and three SCCA cars). Well, from what I have read, the H23A crank/rods mixed with H22A TypeS pistons will make ~12:1cr with thinner head gasket/flat valves. The H23 stroke is longer, thats where it gets the extra 0.1 liter from. I know Corey never did any headwork, so maybe you should send that head off to get some HcH1 legal headwork done. Valve jobs are legal and I believe 1" into the port is as well.
I am not sure about spinning an H23 to 8500RPMs, but hey.....if it made power up there why not. After seeing my powerband, it seems like theres way more than 8300 in there. I think with the H23 mid range, 8500 wouldn't even be necessary, but this may start affecting your gearing. I know I have had plenty of time where another few 100 rpms would have saved me a shift. This is why my current setup includes a 5th gen H22 trans with the slightly longer gear. That matched with my powerband gives me a pinch over 100mph and still making power in 3rd.
Heres a Dyno of a stock H23A VTEC@10:1cr with bolts ons! Check out that Torque curve! Imagine some cams and power to even 8200!!!
