just installed the k&n drop in filter
I've just installed the filter, and notice the car is a bit louder through out the power band, and am looking forward to better gas mileage, I haven't noticed any gains in HP from the butt dyno, as it still feels slow, but it's a little funner to drive with VTEC sounding a tad more aggressive (of course my wife hates it, but she puts up with it for the gas mileage
)
I was wondering if I needed to reset the ECU, as I remember on some of my older vehicles w/ obd1, that I always needed to reset the ECU if I made any changes regardless of how small.
Just curious if these K20's need the same thing as the B's

dont you always lose power in the top end with any sort of intake mod, but you gain low end. It may be vise versa, but i dont no. Never realy gave a rats ***, because the you cant feel the difference anyways. Gain or loss it only changes the sound.
I've never personally seen a dyno showing that the drop-in hindered horsepower but I have seen a dyno chart that shows the filter only adding about 1hp.

I've put K&N filters on countless cars (cone and stock replacements), and have run them on my own throughout the years... I've never found them to be of a higher quality than stock or stock replacements....the only good thing about them is they're washable. I've also never seen a car have any kind of signifcant gains or loses based purely on the different air filters being used in the stock air box.
When you do get around to washing and re-oiling this new filter, be sure not to over do it on the oil... these civics use a MAF now, and the filter oil tends to get on the MAF sensor wires and screw up the sensor when you use too much.

I was the one who had my car car dyno'd with the K&N filter compared to stock. I posted the numbers last fall. I don't have a scanner but here are the numbers again.
Stock=
182.83 hp
133.46 tq
K&N =
182.90 hp
133.18 tq
I'll be honest, I just recently took off the K&N. I just hate the idea of the filter oil clogging the MAF sensors. And from experiance, there is no difference in power or gas milage. The K&N does sound a little more aggressive at vtec tho.

cool, thanks for the responses guys, I'll NOT be resetting the ECU...I'll let you know about gas mileage in another 100 miles or so, as thats when I'll be refilling the tank

The difference is so insignificant you really won't know if it was the actual filter or just different driving conditions.
