something different my freinds mk2 gti with 16v 2.0 swap build haha
so this is a post of a build im helping my freind do. let me start with some back info. i am a honda guy and i know ill get **** for all this. but i enjoy cars in general so i enjoy working on it i respect nice vdubs and actualy really like mk2 gtis and mk3 jettas although in know hondas engeneering and building is bettter in every aspect. german engeneering is only good for the deisels. i also would like to say that i may get some info wrong and feel free to correct me and help me along as i enjoy learning about all things.
now to the car.
its a 85 gti
2.0 16v dohc stock engine swap thats not complete.
fk sport suspension and some prettly lame rims.
the goal is to get this car clean interior and exterior and running strong in the next month or so. the problems. it hasnt run since he bought it. it was suposedly a fuel pump problem but the wiring has since been torn apart and there is no dash.
to start we stripped the car of all interior parts.

and then the first nitch in the road. we find out what was supose to be a rust free body actualy is not....

and then it gets worse as we find out its far deeper then surface rust specifcaly in the front passenger side panel (kick board) and the rear driverside panel (where the seat sits) and the previous owner knew about it and did a **** *** repair job with some soft sealant on the underside.

our first idea bondo and fiberglass.....
a big waste of 120 dollars when we change our minds.

we finaly after the accross the street neigbor reminds us his welding expertise and access to garage metal shop and the right gauge sheet metal for the job i believe 12g? is what he said opt to put new metal panels in. our new goal for the day get the sourounding holes cut and grinded around the peremiter 1inch.

passenger side hole

driver side seat panel hole. woulda been nice to fall through when driving.

we also decided to weld peices along the drain plug. for aesthetic reasons and the fact the soundproofing stock peices came out that covored the holes.

night time work by my freinds little brother

we ended up working until about 11 oclock at night but now its ready for the panels which should go in by tuesday.
ill post some more pics of the car very soon. like full shots of the exterior (only nice part on the car) and engine bay which is a mess.
hope you enjoy it. feel free to feedback subscribe and help me along the way

Don't know about the non-running engine. The 2.0 16v didn't come out till later, so my memories of the CIS system aren't gonna help with that later engine.
I do remember that the shift linkage wasn't too swift.
