ok.. i finally got the motor running. everything runs fine but now i got a new problem. we were changing the clutch today and saw 4 of flywheel bolts already popped out and threads are messed up. dont know what to do next? would over reving have caused to do that? hope its fixable or im gonna have to get a new crank.

Since you have a decent camera, throw up pictures of the issue instead. The only reason that comes to mind of a bolt backing out is because it was improperly torqued down and/or the improper bolt implimented.

What do the bolts look like?

I would say that if you're extra careful, get the proper size die, and SLOWLY hand thread it into the bolt holes as if twisting in a bolt. This is what a machine shop would do. I have done this before as well, granted not for the clutch but for other significant issues.

As far as the bolts, I would simply get new ones. No need to chance it.

 

yea only 1 out of 8 bolts was left in perfect shape. and tried to put that one in each hole.. it only went in 2 with no problem. the rest are messed up.

 

Picture of your parts list won't help to solve your problem.

What did you torque the bolts to?

but yea.. probly the previous owner who replaced the clutch/flywheel didnt torque the bolts right. will post up pics later.

 

 

im only worried about that one. got pretty messed up. i think the rest are fixable.

 

what size injectors are you planning on using?

 

Sounds like the flywheel bolts were not torqued down properly.

yeapp.. so anyone have had this prob before? ive been to almost all auto parts/hardware stores around here and none of them have the right tap kit size.

Bingo, over reving does cause that.

 

had the same thing happen to me...but the threads on crank were fine but i had to replace a couple of the flywheel bolts.. not too sure about youre case though...are the threads on the crank stripped or just the threads on the flywheel bolts?

Over-revving doesnt cause bolts to back out, thats like saying driving fast will make the floorboard fall out.

OP- the threads dont look bad, get a tap set from sears and clean up the first few threads. (Dont cut new threads) Go to Honda/Acura and get yourself some new bolts and torque them to spec, maybe a little loc-tite to make you a bit more comfy with it.

 

Are you suppose to loctite the flywheel bolts? I changed my flywheel/clutch summer and just torque them down. There is this gremlin in my head that is always telling me that one day, my flywheel will fall off! Stupid me....i had loctite too. Just never thought about it......DOP!

You dont have to, a properly torque'd bolt will stay in place.

Driving fast will not make the floorboard fall out, but a misshift overrev does cause the the bolts to back out and transfer of metal to/from crank and flywheel. Its happened to me (misshift from 3rd to 2nd) and verified from the crank repair guy. Also if you do a search, there have been a couple of cranks that did that after a misshift.

 

how were they able to fix it? i already got the tap tool.. but im just looking for someone who knows how to do it. any locals?

i never touched/replaced the clutch before. probly the previous owner.

 

most likely the problem came from previous owner

 

problem solved. took the R out tonight for a ride. and it just feels great. i just missed driving it.

 

so how you get the problem resolve

 

Buy a good tap and die set to fix the damaged threads. If you buy a cheap brand you may risk breaking a tap. Common problem on turbo neons due to downshifting. If you are able to fix the threads use thread locker on the bolts and torque them down. That is not a hard fix. Worst case is replace the crank.
