Default radiator fan

I have a 92 prelude with an h22a swap. The radiator fan has never worked when it is supposed to. So I kinda made it so that it worked indepently through a switch. I tried to hook it up to the ignition fuse in the fuse box under the hood and it still turns on with the ignition off. I want it so that it turns off whenever the car is off. I don't want to forget to turn it off and it drain my battery. Just wondering if there was another way to do that. Thanks in advance for any positive input.

It's sounds like you did not hook it right and connected directly to the battey that's is why even you turn your ignition off fan still running. Check you wiring again make sure you got to read the schematic properly.

My prelude does same **** I only heard my fan turns on when I drove it 6hrs after that nothing I never heard my fan turns on again.. I did not bother about it. I thinks if the temp is below threshold to where the fan would turns on, the fan won't run.

when it turns on (when key is out) does it shut off after couple of mins? the fan is design to turns on/off intermittently even the engine is off and it's hot. I don't know how you guys do it so it's hard to tell cuz now it has different wiring setup. I would say leave the fan alone, until you are sure what is the problem y it's not turning on. There is a way on how to check fan switch on helms. check it out!

You want it to run when your car is shut off though, for a bit sometimes. if your running hot, as soon as you shut down your fan won't work and you risk over heating as you stand.
the fan should be connected to a timing relay that allows it to stay on (when motor hot) for a couple minutes post shutdown

How would i connect it to a timing relay? I've never messed with it before.

Would like to clarify as it sounds like I have the same problem too... I think everyone is in agreement that the fan should either stay on or come on just after engine shutoff if cooling is needed.

However, my fan will sometimes come on 2 or 3 hours (or more) after engine shutoff. Certainly, the engine is cooled by then (air temperature below 50 degrees). While the engine is off and the car parked, the fan will just cycle on and off seemingly at random.

Is this what is happening with the other fan problems? And does anyone have any clue as to why this would occur?

Thx!

If you guys have a situation like both fans come on when ac is on but radiator fan won't work independently this might help. I have not gotton a chance to do this on my lude but i will when i get a chance.

Just hook your "hot" wire up to the parking light switch on the dash fuse box, then you can turn your parking lights on to turn the fan on. Plus, you get the beep when you leave your lights on, so now you'll never forget to turn the fan off... its a cheesy way of doing it, but it'll work.... in the future, get a thermo-switch for the fan.
