OT: My Thoughts on the New Civic Si
Anyone see these commercials? Lets start with the add with a dude in a VW with his doors blown off and in the background is a Civic Si parked there. Now, on to TV commercials... anyone seen the newest one? "The Civic Si as a Boombox" Drivin on the salt flats and fly's by real fast causing a sonic boom...
Now isnt this a bit boastful for a car that runs on regualr unleaded gas, rev's up to 6k rpm, and does the 1/4 mile in about the same if not slower than the previous Si? Also, does anyone recall the numerous comparison tests with the Si being thrashed by a *GASP* FORD???
I personally find the car extremely appealing. I like the fresh look and the interior just feels so nice... I sat in one and never wanted to get out, but when you drive it, you feel less compelled to stay. Its upsetting really. The car is a porker, weighing in at 2744 lbs with a whopping 160hp out of the 2 liter K20A.
What I need is the Type R... I look at the 4 lug wheels and cringe cuz the car looks big with its round like shape and so anything less than 5 lugs just look WEAK... it needs the Type R body kit, Type R wheels, Type R CW paint, Type R 200hp 6 speed engine, and most importantly Type R HANDLING!
Why not get an ITR? I need a change and I want something more unique. Hoards of Integra's running around... though you may have an R... it can be easily mistaken for an LS to an untrained eye. The new civic hatch is totally unique... I know some of you mistaken it for a minivan or a focus, but I still like it! The looks at least.
Anyways, yes I have been considering one and I wrote this cuz I am getting discouraged with the car's performance and performance potential. Maybe i'll get it anywayz and go bling bling show car cuz at this point it doesnt seem worthy or smart to waste money on minimal performance gains on a slow, heavy car.

the new si sucks, plain and simple. I am personally labeling it the crisis mitsu went through when they switched from the 2nd gen to the 3rd gen eclipse. The new gen suxors
I think the Si can be made into a descent car. It basically has the Civic R suspension from Europe. Put a larger wheel/tire combo and it will probably handle pretty damn well. As far as power is concerned, that remains a question. What is available for the "base" K20? The interior really is very unique and that alone will move people to buy the SI. I would buy it instantly if it had the 200hp K20.

Damn...the more I see that car the uglier it gets. What's with all the Ford Focus look-a-likes nowadays? The Focus was originally an imitation of import styling and now the imports are starting to imitate the imitators. Ugh, no thanks.

Well, at least you get pretty hefty HP gains with I/C/H/E, due to its large displacement.
IMO, if I had to buy a Civic, I'd rather get the new Civic Hybrid than the Si... heck ya, 51 mpg on the freeway.

First thing I would try to do is advance the timing to the point where it pings unless you're on super/94oct maybe it'll come a little more alive.
...and thats why a lot of the new rsx type S's are beginning to vanish into the night...
I don't know why someone who has the current Si would switch to that. It's got the same horsepower and is just heavier plus stupid looking. The extra torque from the larger engine probably just gets cancelled out by the extra weight.

From what I know the "base" K20A engine only has VTEC and VTC on the intake cam. The Type S motor has VTEC on both cams, and VTC still just on the intake cam.
I see the new SI the same way I looked at my EK hatch, It could be a good car but it needs a lot of work. I feel the car is a ripoff at $19,000 considering you get a base model engine that does not compare to the B16. It only has vtec and vtc on one cam, lower compression, and lower redline (which most likely means weaker internals, and a simple head swap seems out of the question). It's the type of car you buy used a few years from now and look to swap in a Type S or JDM Type R engine and brakes. By then you will know what the best suspension setups will be.
