i keep hearing that a b16 transmission is the best out there
but gsr is the next step. is there a big nasty diference between the gsr and the b16. if so what is the difference.
i've been waiting for about a month to find a b16 transmission. and it doesn't come around, but gsr tranny are up like crazy. thanks guys for the info.

ITR tranny with lsd and the jdm final drive is probably the best oem parts tranny out there.
Did you try craigslist and ebay?
B16 shouldn't be that hard to find. A gsr will be comparable. Just as long as it's not an ls tranny.

other than showing you the mph limits of each gear, which can be found in the link I posted.
the gsr just has slightly longer 1-3rd gears, a longer 5th, and a differen't final drive.
The gsr will probably get 2-3 better gas mileage on highway.
Also the gsr might be less hectic depending on how finicky of a driver you are for daily driving.

from a personal experience standpoint, 1-2 are a bit too long for my liking with a gsr. a b16 would fit me much better.

I have a GSR Tranny in my EG right now with a B16 motor
The gears are much longer. The car is not as snappy as a B16 with a B16 Tranny. Its good for boost though... so it all depends on what you want to do with your car.

all i heard about the difference in the 2 trannys is how they are on the freeway or at high speeds, the b16 you ll be cruising at like 80 stuck at like 4500-4800 stuck in vtec that if u have vtec if not i geuss it doesnt matter but the gsr is wat im going with in my ls
I personally love b16 gearing on boost. With nice tires, and a good tranny that can shift quick, you can really work people. It also helps when doing 40mph burnouts next to people that come up all hard blowing off or rasping like a ricer :-D.
Some people dont like how high it rides when crusing on the highway. I'm not familiar with having vtec that low so it was never a problem with me.
I had a little t25 at one point on my b16 and at high speeds it would build boost just while cruising.
Like Ep1dem1c said, its all about what you want to do with your car.

?? If thats wut u like thats cool. Me personally would like to spool the turbo before having to shift..
Anyway long run is.. If you going to be driving in the street and plan on doing on racing on the track go with the b16.. If u drive alot on the highway and need to travel and commute. Go with the GSR.. Your 5th is longer and itll be nice not having to in vtec the whole time

honestly you will be satisfied with either tranny, I've had a, gsr tranny and a ls tranny case with ctr gears. Not a b16 tranny, But I would assume its slighty better due to the fact your at a higher rpm in every gear, allowing you to keep your power band up. I didn't like the gsr tranny as much, got bored of it. If your driving strictly street and barely any hwy driving then do the b16, if your going to do lots of hwy and street driving, then the gsr tranny would be best. ITR tranny is a different story but thats not the topic. But ultimately I would go with a b16 over a gsr, its slightly cheaper then a gsr tranny as well too.
