performing a swap... can it be done professionaly and at what cost?
I am a fan of working on cars myself, but I dont have the tools nessacary to perform a swap... can it be done professionaly? and at what cost? thanks... cant wait to contribute to these forums more... thanks
what car? What engine? what tranny? do you want AC? do you want Cruise Control? more details man!
Anywhere from $500 to to several thousand.

Of course it can be done professionally. Actually, businesses make a fair deal of money doing engine swaps. They overcharge you on the motor they purchase for you (because they paid too much for it in the first place), and then they charge you at least $60/hr in labor.
i say try it .. you dont need much tools just basic tools..
jacks
10-22 mm sockets and rachets
breaker bar
32mm socket
maybe a little dolly to roll the engine from the bottom..
and couple spare hands

Some people don't have the time (only have one car) or the patience/experience to do a swap
You forgot the most important thing buddy: jack stands

A good price on a gsr swap into a civic is about $1000.
I'd rather do it myself though. It's WAY easier than you think if you're even mildly mechanically inclined. Too many people are afraid of doing swaps. It's not rocket science.
Local shops in my town that aren't honda-specific charge between $2000-3500 for swap labor. It's ridiculous.

A friend of mine almost died due to his car falling on him from using cinder blocks.
He's owned a killer set of jackstands since, it took him 2 years to be able to get under a car again.

thanks all... 94 civic cx.... Not sure what I want to put in it yet... cruise is not an issue... it will be my daily driver so ac is a must for the summer. I was thinking b16... but anything that will give more pep then the stock 70hp LOL

If you'd like a little more pep but a very comfortable daily driver, I do recommends a B18B out of an Integra. Much better low end, and still has long enough gearing to make freeway driving comfortable. I went from 106bhp and 103lb/ft to 142bhp and 127lb/ft for about $1300 including all parts I needed (which was some fluids, a B20Z Timing Cover Mount, and the 99-00 Si Rear Mount). I actually get better gas mileage with this motor too, because I have more power low down, so I can shift sooner.

^^ Ls ftw. i've considered it many times for my faily. But I'd do the b18b with a b16 tranny.
I've driven one, and it was actually impressive. Not fast by any means, but still impressive.
