Thoughts on Seibon Carbon Fiber Fenders for CRX
i was wondering if anybody has had experience with the Seibon CF Fenders for a CRX, which can be found HERE.
just wanted to know your experience with the fitment. it also says it is only for 89-91 CRX's only, wanted to know if anyone has ever put them on an 88 CRX.
thanks.

All USDM '88-91 CRX fenders are the same. The only difference is the clips that snap into the front to hold the corner markers - '88-89 clips are the screw-in type, while '90-91 clips are the slide-in type. They are interchangeable.
Thus, the fenders would have to work on an '88.

88-91 fenders dont differ in anything except how the corner light attaches.
88-89 have female plastic pieces that accept philips head screws.
90-91 have plastic "sliders" that accept the corner light, without any screws.
to give you an example, i ordered 89 jdm crx fenders from a ZC model to use on my 88 crx hf, BUT i have a 1990 SiR bumper headlights and hood, so all i did was switch the plastic pieces and it works fine with 90-91 style corner lights.
so basically seibon themselves are probably unaware or afraid of first gen crx guys might buy thinking they would fit.
as far as fitment you would hope its clean, but one last thing and then i will leave you alone....
have you ever actually held a oem crx fender off the car?
its incredibly light.... the weight difference cant be more then ounces....
but if its the look your going for, then more power to you.
most guys on here would probably suggest that money be spent on other things.
EDIT damn you targa beat me to it.

Indeed, I would have to agree.
There are much more cost effective ways to save a larger amount of weight than buying carbon fiber fenders.
I wouldn't bother with aftermarket fenders unless they had usable flares integrated anyway. If it can't fit 275/35-15 Hoosier A6es, then it isn't going to do me much good.

thanks for all the info. i actually havent held an oem fender. but if it is as light as you guys say it is then i would probably skip on the fenders. just trying to figure out how a crx could lose weight and improve the power/weight ratio.
sorry to be off topic but while we are discussing weight, would a CF hood be a good investment weight wise?

can save anywhere between 10-15 pounds depending on which one you go with.
some of the largest gains in weight reduction comes from replacing the cars glass with lexan or plexiglass. the problem is its not really street legal with those type of mods.
another thing that doesnt help very much is the carbon fiber hatch. since again, its not replacing anything terribly heavy, all the wieght is really in that large piece of rear glass.
what many guys do is chisel out all of the shound deadening material hidden under the carpets, thats good for a few pounds.
the rims you choose have a pretty powerful effect on the overall rotating mass and the total weight.
if you have a DX or an HF model, you can swap those rear drums for aluminum from an 1984-1987 HF model. saves a few lbs.
striping your interior would be good for a few lbs but thast not always a good idea on a daily driver.
you can remove the metal front bumper support in the front of the car, since the plastic cover can hold itself without it, just dont have a fender bender without that brace.
lighter drivers seat i guess? remove the passenger seat....
if you have a sunroof you can replace it with a CF plug and rip out the motor, save quite a few lbs.
if you have the 90-91 doors with the seatbelts in them, you can pull the door panels and rip out the seatbelts and just use harneses on the seats themselves, that saves weight....
