1989 Accort - AT Selector Cable
The 89 Accord LXi 2Dr Fuel Injection, would go into the "P" parking selection but the car would roll down if on a slope. This means it is not catching the teeth on something. Opened the Tranmission box next to steer wheel, the hook goes fine and even locks up into the U shaped socket for "P", but the car still rolls down.
Does this mean AT selector cable needs repair or replacement. Rest of the selections, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, D1, D2 etc. work find and smooth.
Any suggesstions on what to do or how to repair this cable.
Thanks All,
Ric

Under the car you can see where the cable goes into the trans and 3 12mm bolts hold on the cover. with the cover off you can check to see if the cable is moving the shift rod/lever all the way. If you can't find any good results there I think you can pop the cover off the end of the trans and look to see if the parking pawl has engaged. There is a pressure circuit inside the trans to engage the pawl.
Has any one slammed the car into park while rolling 30 mph lately?
