Old Lady wants me to get rid of Integra
Hello,
I am an old man and my old lady is tired of looking out the window and seeing my 94 Integra GSR sitting in the driveway. It has been sitting there for about 2 years now.
I was driving home from work one day and it began making a loud clacking sound. I pulled over and not knowing what it was. I had it towed the rest of the way home so as to be safe.
I pulled the valve cover off and everything seems to be in order. Now again - I'm an old man (33) - I change my oil and can make sense of what's underneath the valve cover - but from reading some of the posts around here it sounds as all you guys are auto mechanics. I don't know what the problem is with my engine - sounds bad though.
I do not want to get rid of this car, but my wife is making life miserable around here. Now - please understand I am not posting here to offer this car for sale. My question is "What would be a reasonable offer for this car?"
I want to put it in my local classifieds (again I am an old man - I don't feel comfortable selling a car to someone on the other side of the country.) I want to shake hands and get a check in the other hand and the same time.
The car is a 94 GSR all stock. It has 258,000 miles. The body is in excellent shape and the interior is in pretty darn good shape.
I had a friend offer me $500 out of the blue and a coworker offer me $400 and an XBOX game system (Old man don't play video games).
In my local craig's list I saw a 94 LS (Teal with Krylon painted blue interior) sell in 3 weeks for $1300. The description said - CAR IS DEAD - WILL NOT RUN.
That being said I wanted to ask $1500 for mine. My wife thinks that is crazy and I am a loon for not taking the $500.
What do you guys think? Is $1500 to much for a 94 GSR that needs some engine work?
Thanks

Engine knock is not good, it probably means it needs a rebuild. New rod bearings maybe (Engine needs to be taken out). Not surprising considering its got 258k on it. 1500 might be too much to ask for a stock shell. Maybe not, if the right people see it. Post it up here, on H-T:

People will travel to see your car if the price is right and you post lots of pictures and it has a good title, etc. You can't post in the marketplace with your trial status. 15 days and few posts more and you'll gain full membership... Hope this helps.
Oh, and quit talking bout how your an old man... 33 is NOT old. 70 is an old man...

Thanks for your advise - I was cutting up about 'Old Man'.
I remember when I was 25 thinking - Oh No - not me when I'm married and have a kid I still will have a SI or a GSR - maybe a Type R. I'm not going to be one of those guys that ends up with a four door LX automatic. Not that there is anything wrong with that because I now have a mild mannered four door LX automatic!

well dude, here is the deal with your car.
500 is not even in the ballpark. First off, if your tranny is smooth, you can get 500 for that alone, blown engine or not.
People will drop 300 on just the rear disc conversion, and another 100 on the fronts. The seats will sell for at least 200, and the gauge cluster and is worth 150 easy, the ecu will net you 150, the head on the engine will snag 500 bucks if it's complete.
seriously, blown engine or not, you don't realize what you have. I'm sure you don't want to part it out, but if you're not going to fix it, you should be able to get 3 grand for it easily. Even not running. (actually, you said it was running, but you stopped driving it because of noise, which could be a costly rebuild due to a spun bearing, or a 50 dollar valve job at a mechanic. If it's as clean as you say, even broken, 3 is easily obtainable)

That shell had 120k miles on it, but it all depends on who is out there. I cant say anybody will not pay 1500. Be honest, post a lot of pictures. You seem like a guy who took good care of the car and didn't beat on it. Still a tranny with 258k will not go for 400
Good luck with the sale!
Do 1500 or best offer. That way you aren't limiting yourself.
