Turbo kit or engine swap???
Just wondering what yall think is a better choice, having a custom turbo kit put on a d15b7 or should I go with the b18 swap? Any info would help before I dish out the money.
before i give my opinion, i assume that your d15b7 is stock all the way around, correct? good thing about the d15b7 is that it has 16 valves as opposed to 8, but the best thing yet is a swap, then down the road turbo.
It all depends on your financial situation. Boosting a d will be half the cost of a good swap, and will run harder too. (depending on the tune and quality of your parts)

yes if your looking for more power on the street i highly recomend a turbo D-series, if it were auto X i would say a swap and if it were for a drag raceing car i would say swap but your just looking for more power street wise, then the best bang for your buck is to boost a stock D.

Yep, and there are also people with ls motors and b16 tranny's for $1200-1500.
Ls with a good tranny is actually an astounding daily driver setup. If I was anxious to do a dohc swap I'd do that. I drove one and it's very impressive for a stock ls.

B swaps and turbos can be done for about the same price.
It's not an issue of money, it's more an issue of time, reliability of the stock motor, and personal preference.

I know I'm not going to get outragious hp numbers out of the d15 but I was told about putting a v-tec head on it to give it some more hp on top of the turbo. Also no I don't want a junkyard build I need it done right and reliable.

i'd say swap. it will tide you over for now and you can piece together a nice turbo kit instead of some hoopty one for a motor that im assuming has a whole bunch of miles on it. just my honest opinion

I've helped with 2 junkyard builds, my friend anthony just swapped out his turbo after running a dsm turbo for 25,000 miles.
All turbo's are reliable, just rebuild the turbo if it looks like it needs it, and get a tune.

junk yard turbo doesnt mean it wont be reliable, it will prob be more reliable than most because those turbo's were made to last(they had them on production cars) the only prob with a junk yard turbo build is........well its not the prettiest thing out there i mean you can clean it up a little but it will never be that pretty, like a new one, though new things get old and turn ugly...... that is life. if your going turbo D dont swap the head.
how far do you travel every day to your job? a swap will deff be less bang for buck but possibly a bit more reliable unless your tuner is good at tuneing. if he is they should be nearly the same in reliability and longevity(depending on how much you beat on it.) it all vary's

p.s. i have an extra tdo4 if anybody is looking for one with an hf manifold and adapter flange that i will give away for like $50 plus shipping( can get pics if needed, everything is in good shape the adapter flange isnt that pretty but it will get the job done and it would need 2 gaskets and some nuts and bolts).
