refilling air conditioner?
my wife took her 91 honda accord in to get the a/c diagnosed and serviced, the a/c hasnt blown cold since she bought it 6 yrs ago. the mechanic shop at her work told her that her car has the old model of a/c which uses R12? they told her that she would either have to go to the dealership and get it serviced which will be $250 or call a refrigerant place and we dont know how much they charge. she called midas and they said they dont sell R12 anymore and to get a coversion done to the a/c would cost more than $350 dollars. my question is, is this correct? is there anywhere else or any easier way we can do this?
take it to the dealer and get it fixed and then recharged with r12.
While you can convert it, you really should replace the hoses to a barrier type to prevent all of the r134a from slowly leaking out.
Also R134a has several flaws
1. about 10% less effective than R12
2. does not have the reserve capacity R12 does.
3. Operates at a higher pressure
