Default Oil Life Messed up? 2006 Civic Ex Need advice.

My brother got a 2006 Civic EX.
After 5000Km the oil life was 50% and he changed the oil to Synthetic at Honda dealership.
but it never readjusted from 50% up to 100%. now 2000km later (7000km) its telling him his oil life is 15%.... where it should be at maybe 65%?

Any ideas?

Does he have the receipt from the dealer for the last oil change? Go by the mileage... 5,000mi intervals are about right for a synthetic.

Or maybe contact the dealer... they may have info regarding his last service.

The oil life meter goes by revolutions of the engine not necesariy miles...tough to say for sure where he should be, just check ur receipt or with dealer and go about 5k and change it, make sure they reset it next time.

The OLM is now included in all new Hondas.

I always drain and fill with M1 0W-30 at 5,000mi, regardless of what the OLM says; currently, I'm at about 26,000. Because I always reset the Maintenance Minder before it reaches 15%, my "SERVICE" icon never goes off. This means that my ECU doesn't keep track of my "A" or "B" service intervals; as far as my car is concerned, I'm still running on the factory oil!

Good thing I'm uber-**** about maintenance.

For some reason after i put in mobil 1 syn at 12k it seemed the oil life gauge was wasent going down as fast as 2 when i had in reg oil. I went almost 6k miles before it hit 20% oil life when i changed it and this is with a trip to florida which put over 2 k miles on the car. I also redlined plenty of times in florida and after i got home it seemed because i had better oil in the car it wasent wearing as quick IDK it could just be me has this happened to anyone else with full syn oil ?

Ahhhhh Thanks Nighthawk R18 for the steps.

My brother put full synthetic in the car. How many km/miles should he do an oil change? I think the dealship told him 12,000km ???!?!?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by axtran &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">This may be somewhere in the manual, but I could not find it in there (I was kinda too lazy to look) so I just wanted to post it up so people could see and check if they wanted to.

VERY VERY SIMPLE!!

Here goes:
1) Insert Key into Ignition, go to II or "On" position (not "Acc").
2) Hit Sel/Reset until "Oil Life" comes up.
3) Hold for 10 seconds until it flashes.
4) Release
5) Hold again for 5 seconds and then it resets.

Hope this helped someone! It sure was great info for me! </TD></TR></TABLE>

I wouldn't go much higher than 5,000 miles with any oil.

My Fit was at 5% at 5600, I changed it then. Since it was the first oil change, I let it go that high. Next time it gets changed at 5,000 no matter what.

When you reset it before the " light " comes on, after the initial press of the button that makes it start to flash, it should flash what code you are best "recommended" for, we do this daily to force out the code for people who arent at the 15% mark yet.

So for those of us who are trying to keep the promotion like Free tires for life, free car washes, etc... by doing ALL maintenance (15% oil life) at the dealership...
can they tell WHEN they reset the oil life to 100%? Or when anyone resets the oil life?

I know how to do it, but I don't want for them to know if I did it or not. (I don't want to have to pay $55 for oil change and $175 for the other maintenance every alternating 5000 miles...)

Can they tell? Thanks

yeah im 99.9% sure theres no way for them to tell when it was reset, we just had our car wash guy reset the light on a car that was in for a tire plug...she had 30% now she has 100 % and didnt get an oil change, lol.
