Right now Im rebuilding an OBD b18a1. I have the bottom end assembled but now I am trying to get the head situated. To make sure my valves are seating properly I am lapping the valves with valve grinding compound and this suction cup stick thing. My quesstion to you all is how are the valve and valve seat supose to look when you're all finished
Get yourself a service manual... any honda will do and it'll detail what you should see. Search for Honda Hook-up and you'll be able to download a scanned copy there. Or look in the civic forum FAQ.
There should be a concentric ring with a hazy gray color and even edges to it that's the width of the valve-to-valve seat contact area. There should be no spotting or waviness to the gray of the ring.
Use 10000grit compound if you're checking the valve seats.
