JDM front-end: Decreases value of car?
probally if you were to sell to a dealership, but if you were to sell privatly, it might a little value to the car, it whould at least help it sell faster
I personally would prefer to buy a completely stock, un-molested car with all original factory paint, so for me the JDM front end would probably detract from the car's value a bit. Of course, it also depends upon the quality of the paint and the installation. Other people might feel that it makes the car more valuable to them, however.
a JDM front end could also indicate the car was damaged and repaired. so someone looking for a mint R might shy away from it. your average stunna on the street would probably pay more for it with a JDM front.

I wondered the same thing, but then I decided it might be good to have an ultra clean ITR that is completely converted over to jap spec. (ie - recaro srd's, JDM wheels, genuine frontend, etc.)
I'm thinking that as more time goes by, and more and more R's are stolen or wrecked or otherwise salvaged titled for whatever reason, it really doesn't matter much what you do to your R, as long as it's still clean titled, and never wrecked or anything. In a few more years, these cars are gonna be worth mid 20's easily, no matter whats done to them if they are clean.

This all depends on the buyer's wants. I'd never personally buy an R with a JDM front because there are actually illegal in DS class (autocross) due to the minor weight savings.
IMO, they look really cool though, in fact almost as suave as the '97 USDM front end with the bugeye headlights. (see avitar for reference)
Not to go off-topic, but is it true they are actually illegal according to US crash/safety standards?

Any modifications other than simple bolt-ons can decrease the value to most buyers. But some people will seek out JDM fronted Rs when they are in the market. My opinion is if you want a JDM front, get a REAL JDM ITR. They are more and more common these days in the states.....and a lot have been titled in Cali. If you can get a car titled in Cali, I'm sure you can get it titled almost anywhere. If not a real JDM R, then pick up one that has already been converted. There are a few for sale at the moment that I can think of. If you're unfortunate enough to crash the front end of your R, then by all means, rebuild as you wish. It's just not necessary to slice and dice a clean USDM ITR in the name of OEM rice. :shurg:

LOL, more like Honda's gift....and it wasn't really a gift since they cost ~$25k to bring home.

I thought off converting my ITR to jdm back in the day but never did because I feared if I got hit in the front with the JDM front end...parts would be harder and harder to come by as time went on.
My .02 it decrease value for me because of this reason.

Yes, absolutely. Any modification you make to a car will decrease the value unless you happen to have modded your car exactly the way someone wants it. But finding that one buyer who will pay what you want for the car you've modded is obviously going to be difficult.

Yes, especially when you consider that ITR's are showing every indication of a car that will be highly collectible in the future.
Even if the conversion is all oem (JDM) sheetmetal and hid lights and installed by a top notch body shop, I still prefer unmolested.

forget all of these other posts....
its seriously up to who owns it and who is going to buy it. if you can show receipts for your insurance records, it might bring the value up.

You know what ..... I'm sorta gettin sick and tired of hearing this.
Dude, let me put it nicely ... The Type R has been acclaimed over and over by some of the world's most lucrative authorities in the automotive world, as being a very special vehicle. Superlatives such as "Greatest Front wheel drive vehicle of all time" are thrown around regularily when mentioning the DC2 variety of the Type R brand. In a recent UK magazine (I'm sure we all know this), the public voted on the top 100 sports cars of all time. This $25,000 econo-box took 9th place overall. I wont even go through the cars it beat out. The model is now over 10 years old .... these reviews came out within the last year. Does this not say something?
So might I suggest that people who are posting in this forum, please give this car, and their owners some RESPECT. The fact of the matter is that as much as some people want to argue it, the Type R IS what you say it is not. So please, erase the price tag from your head, and be done with the "bigger is better" mentality. Sometimes automotive greatness is not measured in horsepower or price.
I think after 10 years of some of the higest acclaim you can get in the automotive world, the Type R has earned it.
Anyways, to the OP: I'd personally be weary of JDM fronts while buying an ITR, so to me, I'd be more inclined to offer less.

I own a 1998 RHD ITR and i love it, but jesus it's just a car. Sure the car handles great and has great performance but..some people just need to lose the big head about having a type r.
personally its your car do waht you want. ifyou like the jdm look go ahead a get it. Personally i liek both us and jdm front ends. Since i got in a accident i finally have the money to do a JDM front end but if i didnt i would have kept the US front.
Its all about how you want your car to look.

Fair enough, but try not to confuse pride with ego. If people talk big about the R, they have all the reason in the world to do so.
