My brother was driving on the highway and I dunno what he was thinking but he pushed the lever into reverse and then kaboom.... now the car wont move, it starts but wont go anywhere.... do I need a new automatic tranny or is it just a few parts i need to replace??
what year car? I thought 90 and newer were electronically controlled and it was impossible to put it in reverse when moving forward at a certain speed?

the 90-97s u could still shift it into R and it will grind if u are moving fwd, but on the 98+, u can shift it into R, but the computer wont engage R if u are moving fwd, so nothing bad happens

The button on the shifter would have had to been pushed...you can't just push the lever up into reverse. It would neutral out, but not reverse. But in any case, I would think it stripped the whole tranny....or maybe broke an axle.
It's actually a 95 toyota Camry but I figured that just about all automatics will probably break the same thing if u put them in that situation, thanx for da help guys, I guess I'ma go look for a new tranny tomorrow then... of course my bro will be paying for all of it muahahaha
