I dont know what to check when my car says this cuz I have checked the break and power steering fluid and my oil but what the heck?

 

Most of us just ignore the maintenance. Just reset the light. Since your car is a 98, i believe is... With the car off, hold the select button on the gauge cluster for 10-15 secs. With the button still press, turn the key into on. Keep holding the button until the light goes away.

If you really want to do proper maintenance, go into your manual and see what to do. I suggest doing a few of these things if you haven't done so in a long time....
-Change oil and filter
-Change tranny fluid
-Check fluid levels (coolant, powersteering)
-Rotate your tires
-check your brake pads and rotors
-Clean the rubber CV boot joint with soap and water. (I had mine broke, preventative maintenance...)
-Check belts and hoses for cracks

I mean the list goes on. I usually do this when I rotate my tires or change the oil. My car is kinda old so yea.... Ummmmm good luck.

 

if it's a 98-02 the light comes on automatically every 7500 (i think) miles after it's reset.

just do the "hold the select button" thing to reset it.

the jiffy lube/etc. guys don't typically reset the thing untill it goes off, so the computer thinks the car is due for a service even if it isn't

 

It is explained in the cars manual if you have that.
