Need help unwelding a part
Recently my car was a vitctim of a hit & run accident which left it with multiple damaged parts, among them a twisted radiator support frame. Being that the current radiator frame is welded to part of the body, is there anything I can do to unweld it like maybe heat it up maybe? I don't want to stick a screwdriver in between the two pieces that are welded and just pry it loose in fear of messing up the solid, straight piece of the frame. Any suggestions?
This is the twisted radiator support as it looks in my car:

And this is how it looks like outside of the body, picture is taken from ebay:

yes, it's welded in there. To fix it would consist of cutting the welds and removing the old bent piece and then having a new part welded back in.
To get the old on out you'll first have to remove everything in the way or thats attached to it. Then you'll want to drill out all the spot welds that hold it on the car. If you don't want to drill them there is a special cutting tool that you use in a drill to cut around a spot weld. The tool looks like this...

I used that when I removed the USDM rear seat brackets on my hatchback while installing a JDM rear interior.
Basically you take a center punch or something similar and put a dent/mark in the center of the spot weld. Thats for the spring loaded center in the tool to track off of. Then you use the tool to cut the material around the spot weld. Once you make it through the material that you'll be removing from the car, stop and go to the next spot weld. Once all the spot welds are done you should be able to pry off the damaged part with a little effort.
Now you just take a grinder and grind down the spot weld smooth. Then you line up you new part and have it welded into place.
I've never done this on the front of the car like this but this is my understanding of what needs to be done.
You could also try the new Body and Paint forum, they may have some tips for you in there.

Thanks for that input. I went to a couple of body shops and the price went from 450, 300-350, 200-250.
So I'm debating wether or not to do it. Originally the money I had on the side I was going to buy my front lip, doesn't look like that's gona be possible.
I'll see how everything turns out.
