Default What to expect from DPFI to MPFI

Hello everyone-

I want to do a motor swap in the near future. Before I get into buying anything too big, I'd like to first convert to MPFI. I all ready know how it's done, and what I need. I only have one question about the swap. I know I need the PM6 ECU, but it is 5 speed. I have the standard hatch with the 4 speed. Will this be a problem?

After the swap, what should I expect? Slightly higher HP? MPG? Will my D15 respond better to bolt-ons?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
-Dennis

yes you need the 5speed ecu. doesnt matter if you have a 4 speed just as long as its not automatic.

what? you can do a mpfi swap and retain the dx auto trans,

either use an auto pg7 ecu or use a standard trans mpfi ecu and an rpm activated switch to turn on the lock up converter

all an automatic obd0 ecu does differently than a standard ecu is turn on/off the lock up solenoid for the torque converter, the lock up does not need to be wired up but the car is more efficient on fuel mileage if it is due to the fact that the rpms drop about 600 since the converter isnt slipping (in high gear)

Use the pm6 ecu.
It's about a 10 hp gain.
Yes it will respond better to bolt-ons.
It will feel like a night and day difference on your d15.

Thanks everyone. Should my MPG increase or decrease? I'm seen people saying I'll get better gas mileage, and people saying the opposite. Anyone do this and actually know for sure?

Thanks again.

I don't think your MPG will increase. But I gained some HP for sure when I did my swap.

I don't really care too much about an increase. I just didn't want a significant decrease in MPG. I love having 40 MPG.

As a basic rule of thumb; the more power you make, the less mpg you will get. This isn't always the case, but it is more difficult to get high mpg while making more hp.

I don't mind it as long as it SIGNIFICANT. A few here or there isn't going to hurt. The HP gain will make up for it.

Can I use anything besides an 89-91 SI intake?

i would actually say you will see an increase in gas mileage. ive had both multiport an dual point injection vehicles. all of my multiport crx and civic got better gas mileage than the dual points.
