Default Tire Selection

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Which tires should I get?
This depends on what you're looking to get out of the tire. Make a new topic and tell us what you intend to use it for. In that topic, make sure to answer the following questions:

- What kind of car you have (year, model, version)
- What size wheels you have
- How the tires will be used (daily driving, autocross/track/dragstrip)
- What kind of weather the tires will be used in (dry, rain, snow)</TD></TR></TABLE>

Car: 2001 Honda Civic EX (Coupe) w/ engine swap and heavy duty suspension modification.
Wheels: 16x7 +47
Usage: Spirited Daily Driving (on some weekends it will drive on mountainous "touge style" roads)
Weather: Typically mid-80's, med. humidity, with occasional rain showers. They will be primarily Warmer season tires, they won't see snow or ice.

PS. I was looking at Kumho's, due to their $40 off deal, but I won't stick to them just because they're cheap. I'm looking for a tire that can last long as well. Also, I did get burned on my last set of Kumho's. Ecsta Supra 712's. I was appalled at their performance, to say the least.

I do know that I'd like to stick in the 205/50/16 - 225/45/16 range for both comfort, and previous experience.

Stock size on your car is 185/65-15. For your 16" wheels, 215/50-16 is a dead-on match in diameter. I recommend the Avon Tech M500, $81/tire in that size at the Tire Rack. This tire is actually even slightly better than the Kumho SPT and Yokohama ES100, neither of which is available in that size. (FWIW, the SPT is available in 205/50, 1.6 percent smaller than stock, for $76; even with the rebate on the Kumho, the price difference isn't all that much.) And I would avoid going any wider than 215, for fear of rubbing. So the Avon is what I would get.

I've got pulled fenders, bud. I've fit 225's on 16x7.5 +32's.

I did rub on the inner fender with some +45's, though. But, I've got an assortment of spacers, so it's not that big of a deal.

Who's Avon Tech's manufacturer? Or is it just Avon Tech. I'm just trying to brush up on the manufacturer's details.

I knew of their main branch. I was just seeing if any larger corporation owned the franchise. Thanks, though.

Yep the Avon tech is what I would go with too! There really isn't much choice in that size but the Avon Tech are great tires

From their website: "Avon Tyres is owned by the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company."

Excellent, Buddy Ralph and the company's official website are both in agreement, one could not ask for more.

The Ziek 512's are notorious for weak sidewalls. I'll pass.

Are you referring to the Kuhmo SPT? The Falkin Ziex is a shitty all season tire, the Kuhmo SPT is a serious summer tire. Apples and oranges. If all you care about is longevity than perhaps it was a good tire for you however a lot of other people want more out of their tires and are will to sacrifice a bit of longevity for it.

Strongly agreed! Also the Ziex 512 are going to be discontinued very shortly! About time Falken gets rid of that shitty tire
