heya guys. quick question. i have a 97 civic dx 2 door coupe. a friend of mine owns a import salvage and i had him looking for me a good engine to swap into my civic. he found me an '02 nsx engine (base model) with tranny (5 speed), computer, axles, and wiring harness. motor has 6,000 original miles. some girl got it for 16th birthday and rolled it and friend bought it. what all is needed to do this swap. will the original exhaust , motor mounts , wiring, linkages, gauges, speedometer, or anything else i'm forgetting work? i'm oldschool and can rebuild a chevy in my sleep but i'm new to the imports. thanks for the help guys i've heard from friends this is one of the better websites to get info about hondas. well thx for the help

u need a nsx. or if u want that in your civic you need a welder and grinder. just cut up the back and weld it in, and your all most done just change all the wiring to the nsx and u should have no problems with wiring. good luck just take pics and share them

 

go to the top of this forum and it will list all the possible swaps for your year and model. do a little research and then pick an engine

 

You can do it but prolly gotta backhalf the car like a rwd drag car and do everything custom. A ton of custom work but anything is possible... ive seen alot of civic hatches converted to rwd with V8's in them

...and as far as putting this engine into a Civic it is possible, but the time, money, and fabrication skills needed are well above most normal people to make it happen.

Stick to the tried and true B, H, or K swaps.

Honestly, If I had a small shop and a rack, I'd go for it. Normal garage and hand tools, I'd maybe think of something else. Either way, I'd take advantage of a NSX drivetrain if it was affordable. Still thinking what I'd do with it though.

Wow... simply amazing

Even if you couldnt afford to do the swap, but could afford the motor/trans etc you could still pick it up, simple green the **** out of it and make some cash off a sell

 

Do it. Try and conceal as much evidence that the NSX engine is in there and go total sleeper if you can. To me, it seems like an opportunity that should not be passed up, and as a guy who can rebuild Chevys in his sleep, you ought to get up to speed with some good research and start a promising build.

Once again, I say "Do it."

You do know that an NSX is an MR car, right? With a transversely mounted drivetrain. So it shouldn't be THAT hard if you had some good welding skills and used the NSX wiring harness.

 

its a lot of hard work. you put a lot of strain on a civic when putting the motor in the back. you have to reinforce the **** out of the back of the car. but if you have the resources i think it'll something really cool to do.

Why not just put it in the front? It would still be FWD, but a hell of a lot easier.

Yeah I know Sam and Arash Mahdavi, and you can call them and ask them how "easy" the swap is. I'm not saying they had trouble, but ask them how "easy" it will be for people with limited tools and fabrication abilities such as regular guys with hand tools at home.

 

Why not put a B or K up front and the NSX in the rear. Dual engine setup hasn't been done in a civic yet I don't think....
engine swap in the rear has been done on here a few times before. Once in a White integra, and once in a del sol. both were well done

Are you sure your not talking about an rsx base model? 02 nsx came w/ 6 spd, and I've never heard the term nsx base model. Plus I highly doubt any 16 year old girl would get an 02 nsx for her 16th birthday (w/6k miles thats gotta be a 70+ thousand dollar car)...unless her parents are morons.. If in fact it is an rsx base model (k20a3) its not worth it.. It makes the same power as a b16.

guys its a type-o its a rsx not a nsx. its a k20a3 engine has 6,000 original miles. i done some checking around and the swap is gonna cost more than i'm gonna mess with. probably gonna trade it off for a hot motor that will bolt in or just sell it or something. just the parts list alone for the swap looked like it would cost me 2 grand or so. just curious whats a fair price for a mint condition k20a3?

Ive seen some k20a3's go for 1500 on ebay. I say pick up a k24 block and a type-s head, tranny, and call it a day.
