Default Whats the easy way to clean engine????

I just got a motor and was wondering how to clean the engine. There's alot of oil all over the engine and tranny. ***** all dirty and black. I've tried brake clean and a towel but that takes a long time. Anyone know a better way to clean it? (cleaning engine in my home garage)

simple green is what a lot of people suggest, search the archives and there should be some topics on different ways to clean your engine.

I always clean my engine by spraying it with engine degreaser and then rinsing it with water. But if your engine is very dirty then a different treatment will give you better results.

if engines installed i drive to a drive through do it yourself car wash park rinse down with degreaser then pressure spray it down then spray a little of the tire shine on there and rinse down and my engine bay is BALLERRRRR.

or if the motor is apart i toss it in the back of the truck and do the same thing because they have the degreaser and they also have the pressure spray which i don't really have access to at home. and/or bring along some simple green for heightened satisfaction.

X4... It's your engine we are talking about. Take the time to get her to sparkle. Toothbrush/wirebrush(light strokes) and some simple green/degreaser with some time and a whole lot of attention to detail and it will look great. I wish i was so lucky to have my motor pulled so i could do this.

I'm going h2b in the next year, so I'll just wait until my d is out then clean the bay.

Or just take it apart and tank it.

I degreased and wire brushed it. I got to know my dirty *** block real good.

I cleaned it with the oil pan on and the deck covered up. clean clean clean. took about 2 hours to get it satisfyable.

Then I taped everything else off as far as holes and painted it aluminum color. Nice and shiny.

Thanks for the useful post. helped this thread out dramatically.

If you live near a college with a good art department and buy the right paint you could paint your block and have them put it in a big enough oven to bake the paint on better.

Wife wouldn't let me use her oven.
