Default Offset for honda accord 2005, need help!!!

Hey guys, i'm bying a new wheels for my car honda accord sedan lx 2004, and somewhere i read that the offset needs to be 45mm, but yestarday i found wheels and their offset is 40mm the width of the rim is 7.5, The seller says that my car supports 38-48 offsets, so what do you think?
Also, what does the offset do, and what is it?

i have used 18x7.5 ( +38 offset) 215/45-18 tires all around on my 2006 accord but then again, i am only dropped like 2 inches.. i ahve also used 17x7.5 and 17x8 w/ 215/50-17 +35 offset

NO RUB

ideal offsets for that car would be around +45 - +48..... 7.5 width

offset determines how far a rim sticks out of the car's wheel well or how much it is pushed into the well.

Stickied at the top of this forum is a topic:

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. It determines how much the wheels stick out from the car. The best offset depends on your particular car as well as on the width of the wheels. As a general rule, you *should* be able to get away with an offset between +35-45, but you will have to check what others have used for your car's year, model, and version to be sure.
