Default Bad door locks?

One more thing that has been driving me crazy forever since i bought accord car a year ago. I recently put in the viper alarm system with remote start yada yada.

Two things really, first even before my alarm was installed the passengerside AUTO doorlock was not AUTO. it would make all kinds of noises. but i could still manually lock it and stuff. Well after i got my alarm installed everytime i use the clicker to lock the door it makes the noise, every time i turn the car on it tries to lock the door but it cant, every time i turn the car off it tries to unlock the door but it cant.

Really what im trying to say is, is it a goner? do i need a whole need... door lock thing? lol i dont even know what it is, i tried pulling off the door panel and looking inside but there is so little room you really cant see ****. on top of that theres so many bars going everywhere and the window stuff is right there. i dont know what is where.

Any help would be greatly appreicated

Edit: my bad i drive a gen 5 f22b1 ex 5speed.

Probably the lock actuator is shot. Do a search though, should provide faster results on ways to find out how to see if thats the problem or not.

The actuator motor usually goes bad on the 5th gen Accord, as well as some other Hondas. Is the noise you are hearing like a screeching?

What is actually happening is that there are two rubber bumper stops inside the actuator motor. Due to wear, one of the bumper stop usuallly comes off, and the gear inside the motor goes pass where it suppose to. Eventually, the gear teeth get worn off too from not stopping at the intended stop.

You can just replace the actuator motor instead of the whole actuator. The motor from Honda is not cheap though. Is yours a 2 door or 4 door? I'll try to post the part once you tell whether it is 2 door, 4 door, front or back.

It is # 9 in this picture, Honda Part # 72115-SV2-003:

Here is the San Leandro Honda link:

Replacing the actuator motor is actually alot easier than the whole actuator/latch.

If you need more info. just post.

After the door panel is removed, to replace the actuator motor:

1. Raise window up.
2. Unplug the actuator motor electrical connector.
3. Remove the one bolt for the center glass run channel near the bottom edge of the door. Slide the center channel out of the way.
4. You may need to remove the plastic rod protector (# 68 in picture) and the plastic latch protector (# 12). They are held in place with philips screw.
5. Three philips screws hold the actuator motor to the latch. Remove old motor.
6. Insert new motor, jiggle the motor around the area where is suppose to be attached to, you are trying to hook a little notch on the latch with the actuator motor (that you can't see that well inside the narrow door). Once you feel it hooked on, then attach the 3 philips screw from the motor to the latch.
7. Reassemble everything you took off.

My '95 accord was like that. I went to a local shop that specialized in Honda. He replaced it for me.

Thanks very much tech8 that will help alot when i tear apart my car to put in my SS and my new gauges.

kdo, how much did it cost to have a mechanic do it. I remember when i had my window regulator replaced, which it a crock of sh** because i watched him do it and it was so simple i paid almost 100$ in labor and it took him 20 minutes, but it cost all together with labor around $250.

That was NOT worth it to me but my father had it fixed for my birthday so if its anything near that id rather do it myself.

Edit: 72115-SV2-003 ACTUATOR ASSY., R. DOOR LOCK $91.49 $21.46
These parts are rediculous. maybe i can get it from a local discount auto parts or bumper to bumper. 91$ to make my stupid locks work is not worth it. i can buy much better things for my car.

Well, if you did not let this to occur for a long time, you may be able to fix it for a few bucks and your labor. (If it has been making the screeching sound for a while, then the gear teeth gets broken. Otherwise, you may be able to glue the rubber bumper back on and save some $.)

I would rate changing the actuator motor to be easier than changing a window regulator.

This is a picture of an old actuator and latch unit I changed out, and played with. Follow my instructions above. Remove the three philips screws (red arrows) and the motor is out.

When you reattach the motor, you have to hook the notch (blue arrow) on the latch unit, since the door is narrow, you won't be able to see the notch. Just jiggle it around in that approximate area until you feel it hooked on, then reattach the 3 philips screw.

In this next picture, the two rubber bumpers stop the gear travel (one for locking, one for unlocking). Due to wear, the bumpers wears away or breaks off. You
may be able to glue the rubber bumper back in place. I used RTV sealant to glue this one back. RTV sealant is very strong once it drys, usually take several
hours to a day for RTV sealant to fully cure; there are fast drying RTV sealants. Some people may use Superglue to glue it back; if you decide to use
CA type glue (Superglue), I recommend you pick up CA type glue from a hobby shop which is much better stuff than "Superglue". (Note: The stuff on the gear is
white lithium grease already on it, you may want to add little more while your in there.) I recommend RTV sealant to glue the bumpers.
