Torn between EF and EK...
I need an outside opinion on this. Dont get me wrong guys, I love the EF
. Ive had 3 so far, both civics and crx. But now I feel like I need to upgrade, and the EK is the only valid choice. But here is the part that makes me angry. I would be going from an Si, to a DX or a CX hatchback
. And on top of that the EK's have shitty looking dash colors, and no SUNROOF. I think the sunroof is the only real reason I dont want the EK. But at the same time there are the many benefits, like the ease and cheapness of swaps, higher aftermarket support, and I can pose it off as a 2000 car with the 2000 head/tail light conversion
The civic type-r also had a great deal to do with my favoring towards the EK. But yet I still love my Si. Arrrrggggggg...
At this point im just really confused... if someone could shed some light on my troubles, it would be appreciated.

well id get the ek
i love the ef but really its like 11-15 years old vs 2-6
i guess it depends where you live but having a newer car is just nice. you dont have to deal with rust, seized bolts, and years upon years of grime and door dings and faded paint and beat down interiors etc, etc
then again the EF is cheaper and lighter and has a sunroof.
i dunno if you just wanna go fast get the ef, if you wanna look good too (and spend the extra money to do it) then get the ek.

I have a 98 EK CX Hatch, and I built a kick *** motor for it (LS/Vtec), and did it out for mods. Then I went to the track, and was pretty dissapointed with the performance. The chassis is just too heavy. Now I have my 3rd EF hatch, and its like 300+ pounds lighter, and I'm building a new motor for it. I know it will perform much more to my liking.
well if you are like me and have 8 points on your record, the ef is the only choice. i cant afford to pay for a car and the insurance and have money left to do mods. good luck with your dilema.
And you ask this Question in the EF forum
99.9% of us will say the EF
But it's really up to you thought..
To me the EK is like riding in a Big *** Luxury Car..

ef ownz j00. if you want to get fast in a honda there is simply no better chassis to choose than an ef. as far as compatibility with high perf motors (anywhere from a b16 to a damn h22), and not to mention that many of them can easily but cut to under 2000lbs. and i havent even covered cost yet, but just so you know, its about as cheap as its gonna get. but, unless going fast is ur #1 priority, i would really think long and hard about that ek (well i mean i would if i was you, ef's foe life as far as i am concerned)

man...EF's have as much, if not more, after market backing as the EK. I mean think about it..who's been around longer?? But as far as weight, speed, and handling...EF wins my vote...it can accept B-series motors(with a lil more money) like the EK's but you get bigger performance gains....Ek's are nice to JDM out though...then sell it like that one dude off of JdmHondaparts....
Honestly....the EF is beginning to be a classic...so nab one now while you can...
Think about it, in the year 2020....all the kids will be like .."oh **** dude....look...its an EF!! It even has the original Honda mudgaurds and front lip! Man...i wish I could find one so clean"

Ek all the way. Ek looks better, is quieter and more refined, no rust, much better dash and cockpit and not to mention the ek's amazingly smooth transmission and clutch. Also the Ek will keep its value much better than the ef.
Wow.. thanks for all that input. Im still kinda stuck though. I didnt get to mention that I allready own 2 EF's.. I have a 90 Civic Si, and a 89 Crx Si. So even if I sell my civic, and get an EK, I would still retiain my Crx. My new delema is which car to sell. The crx is pretty much a project car put away on a shelf, its missing an engine, and is stored in my driveway. I had an offer to trade my Crx for a theft recovery EK, I gave that up
. It was a 96 Civic hatch, with missing seats, engine, lights, and suspension. Btw, if anyone knows an EK like that in the NY area, let me know.

It all depends on budget and what you want to do with the car... I am going to go with a ef because I am poor and thats the best I can get.

So where does the 1992-1995 Civic fall into this?

...And 13.3 on baby 20'' slicks doesn't sound too bad either, does it? And it's not even a drag car! This was at 1100ft. above sea level. Mods are simply 1998 UDSDM B18C5 swap with intake, exhaust, and re-chipped ECU - that's it!
As far as cost, ease of swapping engines, seats, brakes, suspension, there is no other choice - PERIOD.
My car has all of the Integra stuff that's worth bolting straight up. Engine swap, brakes, brake booster and M/C, all 4 corners of sus arms with Energy Sus bushings, rear swaybar, tilt column, etc. All mods were totally bolt on with no mount kits or any sort of adaptors neede for any of it at all.
It all bolts straight in whether you want Del Sol seats, ITR 5-lug, any B-series engine, H-Series fits easier with mount kit, turbos on B-series fits easier, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I like the EF and all, but when compared to the EG in terms of ease of wrenching, swapping, etc. there is no comparison.
Don't take this as being high and mighty, but I'm just stating my opinions.

You have alot of valid points there. The 92-95 civic is by far the one with the most advantages. But in the end it all comes down to the ever present value of personal opinion. Dont get me wrong, I do think the 92-95 is great, its just not my body style. I love the EF body, and I love the EK body even more. I think I came to a conclusion here, I will keep one of my EF's and sell one towards the purchase of an EK.
the only reasons to get an EK:
1) More room in the engine bay
2) Easier B swaps
3) You like the looks and can make it look like a ctr
I wish I had more room for my turbo in my engine bay, would help out alot.
But there is still nothing like driving my 89 civic. This car and my crx were the funnest cars to drive, but maybe it's just me. Owned an EG before, not very fun IMO.
