Default What is your first gen b16 set at...?

My buddy has a first gen b16 in his 90 rex Si. His only mods are, intake, exhaust, comptech flywheel, and str cam gears. What is a good general setting for those cam gears? Also, what do you guys usually set your timing to on this motor? Do you advanve it from the factory setting? I'm thinkin the factory setting is 15degree's' +/- 3 degree's... but I'm not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

Factory is 16+/- 2 degrees. I was running 14 degrees for the longest time (until I figured out how to set it). It's now set at 18 degrees on 94 octane pump gas. Fuel pressure is at 36psi (I had it at about 25psi for a loooooong time - year and a half - ooops!). If you make these changes remember to reset your ECU or your car will actually be SLOWER than it was before. With it two degrees advanced it pulled like a mother off the line... hard enough that my cigarette lighter came flying out of the dash on the 1-2 shift (it's never done that before )

With less mods than your buddy I pulled a 14.6 last night. He should be able to clean house on that time. As far as dialing in the gears, you should go to a track and gauge how it pulls on each run. Times aren't that important until you get it dialed in, so don't look at overall time, just the feel of it.

hey, one more important bit of info. remember which way honda motors spin... advacing timing means tilting the dist BACK towards the firewall, and pulling forward towards YOU to retard. in other words to retard point it towards the retard (you). hahahahaha i crack myself up...
