1995 hatch in galaxy grey, first paint job
This is my first paint job and first attempt at bodywork.
I'll just start posting pictures because it's easier that way.
If you notice me cutting corners on this job thats because I am. I'm building it entirely to sell. My running total including paint and all parts so far is $1100.
I started with this hatch shell, for $100. It was stripped as ****.
Notice the yellow 93 Si in the background. It was a wrecked shell I bought for parts for $200.

After a month or so of collecting parts I started working on the body.
I got new non oem replacement bumpers for cheap from Interstate Auto.
I stripped out the engine bay first. After a lot of cleaning, degreasing, and sanding and welding up holes I threw on my first coat of catalyzed primer, then my paint, and then clear.
It was cold out so the propane heater helped to maintain proper temps. I painted everything in my driveway.

After reassembly of a few parts.

Found a d15z1 locally for $200 for the complete swap. decided to pick it up for the gas mileage. I figure because I'm building it to sell that might help out.
Still need to clean it up a bit more

Put on some ground controls and swapped the rear discs from the yellow SI.
Also found a good driver side door from a red vx.
Here are some pics of it right now. I'll update as I start on the bodywork. I've got most of the dents pulled straight and just need to skim them with the filler.

The headlights came with the riced out SI so I threw them on. If I can't get OEM ones before I sell it I might leave them.
Updates soon

Oh I forgot to add paint information.
I'm using 2006 Galaxy Grey Metallic PPG Omni BC/CC.
For primer I'm using PPG DP90 catalyzed in black.
The entire paintjob is going down in my driveway

Hope you're cool with all your neighbors, cause you can get into trouble for shooting that stuff outside. I'm pretty sure it's illegal (highly illegal), cause of all the solvents in the paint and it's considered hazardous waste and the whole destroying the environment stuff.

I live in the most conservative state in the country. I'm pretty sure my neighbors don't mind. Not to mention I've already painted the bay and nobody said a word.
The amount of waste produced by one paint job is insignificant.

Congratulations!...It's still illegal. I know people that paint in their garages and have been turned in. Just pointing out that it is illegal and to be careful

Call around to local collision centers, find out what paint product they use, and then ask who their jobber is. For example, if you want PPG in my area, you could call a jobber named Valley, or for DuPont the jobber is Mattos.
