turbo and emu for 2006 S2000
I'm new to this forum. Looking for help with a turbo project, and apologies for the long post. I have a 2006 S2K. I've run into trouble trying to put a turbo on it. The first person I hired used a turbo kit that, unfortunately, was for 2005 and earlier models. After putting the kit on the car, he called me to advise of a problem because the 2006 S2K doesn't have a fuel return line. He said the problem could be fixed by installing fuel injectors and a "piggy back" EMU and getting it dyno tuned. So I let him install the injectors and buy an EMU. Unfortunately, the dyno tuner's electrician could not get the EMU purchased to work with my car; I was advised that there is no EMU available on the market that works with the 2006 S2K, only 2005 and earlier, because the 2006 S2K is "drive by wire." I've read some ads for after-market parts that say the EMU in the stock 2006 S2K is programmable. So, does this mean the right tuner can program the EMU in the stock car, or do I need to buy a "piggy back" EMU that actually works with the 2006 S2K and, if so, can anybody advise which EMUs can do that? I have left product names and tuner company names out of this posting on purpose. Thank you for any help. I have a brand new S2K with only 1,000 miles on it that I cannot use until I get this problem resolved. Mike

I call BS.
First of all, let's point out the obvious:
1) You did not do enough research before planning to turbocharge your car, because there are no forced induction options for the 06+ models due to the minor(in your case, major) changes in electronics.
2) Piggybacking your ECU is not the best way to go, should have used full engine management. A "good enough" tune from an FMU is not good enough. AEM has not released an EMS for the 06+ models, and I don't think it's because of the DBW. They've already had a DBW compatible model for the NSX, so I'm guessing there's another problem that they've ran into.
What "piggyback EMU" did you get?

I figured it'd be the Greddy. I guess there's a few options left:
1) MOTEC full management. ($$$$$$$$$$$)
2) A custom fine tuned piggyback map of the Hondata setup, if that's even possible.
3) Wait for AEM
I'd call both Hondata and AEM and see what they can do for you. Maybe you could be the guinea pig/test bed for a new 2006+ compatible system. People will thank you.

I only know a little bit about turboing an 06 since I've chatted with someone on s2ki that turboed his 06. 06+ has a returnless fuel line and was told that it does not need to changed back to the pre 05 unless you plan on boosting more then 9psi. I do not know what is needed to change the fuel system back to pre 05, but I think would cost anywhere from 400-600 dollar. Don't quote me on the price. I also do not know of any EMU that would work with the 06+ and dont think that a piggyback e-manage would work. The only thing i know that works is a rsx aem ems with a special harness, but this will throw your vsa/ cruise lights on the car on. Cost is about 2000. He was using this setup but sold it to another person on s2ki who has his 06 turbocharged also. He is currently using something that does not throw those lights on and told me that it will be released/ known to the public sometime this summer. That's all I know about turboing an 06.

So you gonna hook the man up with some info or what?

no not really. if i could remember the setup i would. i don't care too much about FI. The guy from AZ just put his setup up for sale.
If you go to s2ki.com and look around the FI section, im sure they posted their setups.

Thank you all for providing such quick, and useful, responses. I've called a couple of tuners identifed from the information I received in response to postings I made here and on s2ki. I have located two tuners in Los Angeles area who have successfully completed a turbo install on a 2006 S2K. Seems like the stock EMU and overall computer system was changed in 2006 S2K which makes it very tricky, if not impossible, to use a "piggy back" EMU. I am going to hire one of the tuners to complete the job along the same lines he did earlier this year - cost is going to be about $2,000 + for parts and labor (on top of what I've already spent). So that's $3,800 for the original tuber, plus $1,000 in costs to install that, plus another $2,000+. I'm not including the money spent on the GReddy e-Management Ultimate and costs paid to the tuner/electrician who were unable to make that work on the car - which was another $1,500. If this other tuner (the third in this ordeal) completes the project, I will come back to this thread and provide as much detail as I can on the setup that finally worked - tuber used, injectors used, and how the EMU problem was resolved. I'll also come back if the project failed and explain as best I can why. So, stay tuned, and thanks again for the help.
