Default How reliable are boosted S2k's?

I currently have an '03 M3 that I love very much to drive, but I don't really like the stigma this car has or the cost of ownership and the payments.

Im looking to trade it in on a 2004-2005 S2K and use the extra money for a turbo kit, more than likely. I'm open to SCing as well.

How much reliability can i expect figuring in a conservative tune but daily driven to work with mild traffic? How much power can the stock motor take? I won't be tracking it at all, just a few WOT runs here and there for entertainment.

its as reliable as the tune and more importantly it is as reliable as the driver

Pretty cliche, but it's true. Compression is pretty high on an S2000, so the tune has to be extra perfect.

One SC guy just rolled over to 200k. Not sure that can be considered typical though.

Supercharger = Less Headache.

I actually just purchashed the Inline turbo kit yesterday (and since you're from NoVA, this might interest you). And I drive my car daily.

There are plenty of people in the NoVA/DC Metro area that are supercharged or turbo charged.

depends on driver and maintenance mostly, after proper tuning.
i would think maybe you'd want to get a (5w)30 weight oil that's on the thicker side?

5,000 miles on my sc setup and i already have a blown differential that had been comptech reinforced + cryogen'd.

and that's with no launches or clutch drops.

perhaps, i have a bunch of theories and yeah i think my diff was actually in great shape til the day it busted (well obviously) but if you look at my old post i basically got cut off and downshifted quickly in a turn to go around some lameass cellphone guy ... it was a smooth downshift, but 4.77s + supercharge and WOT around a turn, i got some instant wheelhop and my diff blew, which was basically the second i hit the gas.

the LSD was the only thing "used" and unkown in my setup as i got a complete pumpkin from HTG. my car was at 3 bars temp, but i think my diff might have been too cold still also.. but htg was so shady with me (+2.5 months to get my diff after he lied of shipping multiple times), i'm so skeptical of what i got and if my gear was really cryo'd in the first place...

if you decide to rebuild that diff or build a new one (if you haven't already) I'd recommend my friend Shane. He's put together close to 20 s2000 diff's but I'm unsure about shipping arrangements.

If the powertrain was loaded and one wheel suddenly lost traction then gained traction again while the powertrain was still loaded, any diff would suffer damage. A friend's e36 m3 diff blew when he foolishly accelerated hard with passengers over rough pavement as traction was lost/gained unequally from left/right wheels with wheel hop.

With you behind the wheel, i'd just crash it into a wall and get it over with.
