I'm paying 3.60 for reg and it'll be $4 come summer. I've been shifting at 2k unless I'm going up an incline and my mileage has improved but at a cost? Or is this perfectly fine?

2k is a little low but it cant hurt. I usually shift from 2.5-3k

I would if these SUV drivers would pull their heads out of their asses. Just today after leaving work while every other normal person has to wait in a long line like 3 lights before they can make a left turn. Some schmuk in a Hummer went in the bike lanebypassed us all and made a left and almost ran into my car (mostly because I was holding my ground as long as possible and not letting him merge). I really should have let him hit me cause I could use a new car.

An H23 still needs premium. Shifting at 2k is just fine, but you need to put 92-93 in there...

There are many other ways to save on gas. When you use the engine to slow the car down (such as just letting off the gas and engine-braking) to slow down, you use almost zero fuel. The ECU cuts fuel dramtically when you do this, and the only cost is higher combustion temps.

Keep your tire pressure as high as the tire allows, remove un-needed weight from the car, keep it well tuned up, keep the aerodynamic drag as low as possible, etc...

I typically shift my Type-R at 3,500RPM, and that's comfortable cruising acceleration. I shift my BB6 at 3,000RPM usually, the extra .4 liter is well noticable while lightly accelerating.

ive tryed a fuel economy test shifting at 2500 every time for a hole tank of gass, then another time shifting at 3000 rpm and i actually pulled out 30 more kms shifting at 3000 rpm. less strain on the engine

Don't worry about it. By the end of the summer Gasoline will be $10/gallon and then the SUV guys won't be able to afford to drive around in their wannabe Hummers. Get the moped now and use it when no one else can afford to drive anywhere.

I am glad that I can agree with Cottonwoodz on some things.

Until then run premium in your H23 it's only like a buck difference between the cheap junk and premium per tank. And FWIW part throttle acceleration ( < 40% WOT) will be better than just keeping it below 2000 rpm. It runs richer under heavier loads like lugging the poor car under 2000 rpm.

Or just continue driving like you normally do and just cut down on your beer budget.
