Default Skunk pro stage 3 for H series, Need advise

The sk2 catalog recommends a 9.8k range for using these cams.
For revving this high with a H series block requires good balancing, build block and good compression.

My questions:

- Will a 12.5 cr be sufficient for the pro3's?
- Will a 100mm crank be safe for revving in the operating rpm range or go for a safer 95mm crank? (High rev. vs Displacement considering these cams)

Already searched, but couldn't find any info. especially on the rev vs cc part.

Any help appreciated

If your going to run the 100mm crank you got to make sure everything is balanced. I myself would go with less displacement and more compression to run these cams. Just be prepared for things to go wrong and check the bearings regular. I really don't think you would make power up that high with a 100mm crank.

is this going to be a drag only setup or will it see street use?

I am not even sure if even the big boys with the stroker builds have tested out the Skunk2 pro 3's...dunno if they are even selling them yet...I believe 2point6 was going or is testing out the Skunk2 pro 2's on his stroker build. Pro 2's may be agressive enough for you. Yes compression will help out any agressive cams. 13-1 would be my guess atleast on the Skunk2 pro 3's...pro 3's would pretty much mean track only. Pro 2's would be the biggest I'd run on street. Yes with any built engine balance balance balance. 95-97mm setup would be a decent setup with 12.5-1 compression and skunk2 pro 2's probably looking in the area of 260 whp and 180 ft lbs of torque...

You talk well out of your ***.

I have never seen or heard of one person use pro3s in an h, nor really a b.

A 100mm crank is going to be less reliable at those kinda rpm, if you're going that high (10k), stick to a 90.7mm h22 crank.

Ouch!!!!

Another wasted stack of cash on a 100m crank! 97mm crank@$100 FTW!!!
I wonder how many 100mm's Brian has sold? You think its 1 or 2? 16-20 month lead time! and how much?!

What ever happened to Rocket Cams?!?!?! I don't see anyone talk about them...
I love how people just want to jump into Huge strokes with Huge Untested Cams and crazy compression.
What are you doing with this car???

The car wont be a trailer to track and back car. Mostly a weekend warrior and strip. So it will see some miles on the streets too.
I do know that these cams are new and has not seen many miles yet, but if no-one uses them nobody will know how they work out. That's why im willing to test them out for the sake of the sport.

I am looking for advise from people who have used them before or has some knowledge regarding displacement & revving.

My head will be fully build so revving to 9.5k won't be a problem. On the track id be revving to 9k and the streets 8k.

95mm x 89 seems like the way to go. A 13:1 cr is doable but 12.5 seems more doable for street purposes.

Anyone else would like to chime on this?

I guess you dont like going fast?? Hell, for a track car, thats on the small side for a H block. Go 102+ like everyone else

everyone else?!?! How many people actually run this crank? hahaha If everyone was using the 102 we'd see some 300whp+ H's out there. Seems like guys are getting into the 250+ with a dirt cheap 95/97mm crank.
I do like going fast.......I just prefer not to spend thousands on a crank for another few MM of stroke.
I doubt he's building a Pro Level Drag Car......

You could probably count on 1 hand the people in this forum who have ENOUGH motor for pro3's.

Ive contacted skunk2 and they say 12.5 is enough for these cams. (more compression is better off course). My guess is that revving this high with the H might be the bottleneck.

If you skip that 100mm crank it won't be.
Why not just do a 97mm F23 crank with H22 10.6:1cr pistons?
Just for reference.....The Pro2 dyno I saw from the H22 starts dropping power at 78-7900.
JUNs FTW....revving past 8300!!!! Gotta love 1990's TECH that shames brand new tech!

100mm crank is a no go. The 95 or 97mm cranks are good options indeed. I'm concerned that 10.6 cr might be inefficient though.

Those JUN 3's are good too but id rather test the pros out for comparison.

If you want advise on the matter the the only difference between the pro2's and the pro3's is the vtec lobe. The primarys are the same. If you want big cams just do like most are saying f22 or h23 crank jdm or type s pistons will put u between 11:5.1 to 12:1 depending on a few things. I'm running 87x95 type s pistons f22 crank and rods balanced, skunk manifold 70 mm tb, SSR side exit header, pro 2 cams with all skunk valvetrain. Hoping for 250+/180. If you want the facts talk to Tony Shagday or somebody from skunk 2 and go into detail about your setup. Good luck man. I will post dynos of my setup to help everybody out and show that pro 2's work good in such a setup.

Pro2 cams are more then good enough for you. 100mm crank revving that high with out being balanced and low compression with those cams would be a waste of time and money. I run a 97mm crank in one of my motors with custom cams, very high compression piston and power starts to drop around 8.8k. If you plan on driving on the street stick with pro2's tune it and go have fun. Just because you head could handle a 9k rev doesn’t mean your block could. Good luck with your build.

10.6:1 H22 pistons will make mid 12's with a 97mm crank.

Since when did crank size dictate where an engine can rev? B motors with 101mm strokes and dinky 5.3XX rods were making power in the mid to 10XXX range just a few years ago. K20 (8.347, same deck height as the B18C) blocks with 102+ strokes are doing the same now and running in the low 9's.

If its a drag car and you want to go fast, go big.

I agree....if you want to win, money should not be an object. Like I said before I doubt he is building a Winning Pro-Drag car for All Motor class....
Those above mentioned motors I am sure are running ridiculously custom cams, crazy compression, and probably don't burn regular or even race gas. Are they alcohol cars?
I can rev my motor to 9500 but it doesn't mean I makes power up there......
I just assume(maybe my bad) that 95% of people here are building agressive street cars and the extra 3mm stroke is going to do nothing but break the wallet.

I am not building a pro drag car. I am building a mostly street warrior and drag strip car. The extra stroke is not a must for me. The 95 or 97 cranks are good options.

I would look into some of these parts then! He was building an 89/95@12:1+

Im going to be testing the pro 3's pretty soon with my 97mm f23 crank.. I'v herd alot of "dont do it" but hopefully I'll get them in by next week or so and put it to the test .Like when i was told that my factory f23 rods were going to break
which is still intact reving up to 8600...@ 60+ dyno passes.. Kinda scary though..

Fingers crossed hopefully the pro 3's will do good...

Sweet. Please do give us some feedback on the pro3s I'm interested. Would you like to tell us more about your setup?

Keep us posted on the S2 3's!
I am still sold on my JUNs until I see something knock me out of my chair!
10yr+ Technology and the Competition is still scraping to catch up!
When my 89/97 is done, I am going to be very anxious to see how these JUNs work! They are barely working right now with my 87/90.7 and barely 11:1cr!
89/97/12:1+ on JUNs FTW!
