97 CR-V quit running 1/2 mile after tune up
Hey folks. I hope you guys can help. I just did a tune up on my friends 97 CR-V (150k miles). Tune up included plugs, wires, cap and rotor. We replaced everything and fired up the car and it ran fine. He noted that it was a nice smooth start up. Well, we cleaned up the mess and he took off. About 3 minutes later he called saying it stalled about 1/2 mile away.
I towed him back to the house and began checking everything out. I first checked to see if we still had spark . . . No spark. I pulled the cap and found the little spring that goes from the coil to the cap was a little bent over. I straightened that, but that wasnt the problem. We then started swapping back the old parts, but that didnt fix the problem.
When it stalled he said it sounded like he was giving it gas and it was bogging out, then it just quit and wouldnt restart. Thats the best description he could give.
Do the coils take a dump in these vehicles at about 150k miles? What about the magnetic pick?
I'm really at a loss and any help is greatly appriciated.
Thank you
Chris
