Thermostat Comparison *Yes, same part number but different parts*
I was tearing down a 1995 GSR block today and for some reason I had the urge to compare the thermostat with one off of a 1994 LS. To my amazement they were different. As you can see the thermostat on the right (GSR) has beefier springs than the LS and also looks different from the inside, yet they have the same part number.. hmm.. I was thinking that because of the beefier springs on the GSR it has to have a different operating temperature when compared to the LS. Does anyone else have any inputs on this?

Now, when you say they have the same part number, do you know this from checking a parts source? Or do they each have the same number stamped on them. Because if all you did was look up the part number, then it's a safe bet that one (or both) of those is an aftermarket replacement. If they both have the same number stamped on them, then I'm stumped

Actually I did both. I know for a fact that the LS is not aftermarket and the only visible stamp that I can see is the maker MotoRad which is stamped on both of the thermostats. Anyone care to post up some pictures of their LS or GSR thermostats?

alright, get this.. I found something else interesting.
When looking into the thermostats each one was stamped with its operating temperature. GSR=77c, 171F LS=77C, 170F
tsk, thats prolly why honda listed them under the same part number even though they are physically different. They operate at the same temperatures. anyways.. what a waste of time.. Anyone need a thermostat? haha.

That's why I think it's hilarious when people swear by OEM parts. None of them make their own parts and many times aftermarket parts vendors are the very same ones who produce parts for the OEM's...
