How much oil should you put in a B20 Vtec when you are changing the oil?

 

4.0 quarts is the spec for the B20, and 4.2 quarts is the spec for the VTEC motors. I would suggest filling with 4 quarts, running the engine briefly, and then using the dip stick to determine the exact level as you add small amounts. I always recommend slightly under-filling and then using the dipstick rather than adding one specific amount, so that you will be guaranteed to end up with the proper level.

 

When you say running it briefly, do you mean like not letting it get to operating temp, but just allowing the oil to move around?

 

Just long enough so the oil circulates and fills the filter is fine.

 

Run it until you see the oil light turn off or if you have an oil pressure gauge, til it reaches full oil pressure.
