Question about exhaust...
Okay, here i am, time to start looking for a replacement exhaust system and I am stuck. I have pretty much 3 choices:
1. HKS Sport (the choice for EF'ers) if you can find one.
2. Redshift LCA Exhaust

3. Tanabe Concept G

Now I know most people are against the canister type mufflers, but the Tanabe seems the niceest from what's available. The Redshift is very much purpose built. And the HKS is the old standard.
Input?

Are you driving the car around LA? If so, you might want to go with someting that doesn't attract a lot of attention (sound-wise, I mean). I'd be worried about getting hassled by the fuzz. In other words, not the redshift.

- Relatively quiet (2.25" system meets local 93 dB requirements)
- Only 18 lbs total weight (compare with 28 lbThermal exhaust)
- Eliminates rear swaybar and rear chassis contact and rattling!
- 2.25 inch piping throughout (NO bottlenecks)
-T304 Stainless Steel construction throughout
- Uses the original hangers locations for a simple, easy fit
- Expert, professional fabrication done in-house

The RedShift LCA Exhaust is a fantastic design for autocross competition particularly in the STS class. Anything more would be too heavy, anything less would be too loud. The fitment was perfect especially compared to most other aftermarket close enough systems. The turn down tip is a nice design to help keep down sound levels outside of the car unlike comparable side exit systems. At only $420 for a full stainless steel perfect fit made to order exhaust this is a deal and a half.

RS-R exmag maybe? or how bout a custom kteller mandrel kit with a dynomax super turbo, thats what i have. sorry i cant say anything about those choices you have in mind.
I like the Redshift if you're going to use the car for any sort of racing.
If the car is going to be used through the streets and you don't want attention, you need a silencer.

I have the now discontinued SMR super medalion cat back. Its freaking amazing. I'll stand by it 100%. The baffles they use really help out for a good tone. The ultra medalion is the closest to the one I have (the muffler is made from ti). The local guys I have hung out with really like the concept g's as they are a continuation of the SMR line with some flow improvements.
They are a little on the loud side. Only when you get on it though. When driving around town I keep it under 4K and have never had problems with the cops.
I think they are one of the best sound import exhausts.
EDIT: I just read through some material on tanabe's site to see that they dropped the SMR (Super Medalion - Race) because too many states in the US are banning them (needs to be under 95). It looks like the SMUltra has a baffle to place in the end to keep it legal. Funny cause mine came with a baffle and papers saying with baffle in its ~94dB. I keep the papers that came with the exhaust in the glove box just for insurance
.
EDIT #2: The picture of the tanabe in your first post is looks very close to my system, muffler and some of the piping. The last resonator looks larger though.

why do you think the redshift would be loud? its got a resenator and some form of muffler. exhaust with no muffler istn that loud to begin with, i drove around with no muffler for about 3 months, went thru ride programs with no hassel.
