Manual, right?
Assuming it's like the 6th generation ('98 through '02), first slide down the vinyl skirt around it then turn counter-clockwise.

Lmao! Sorry. Probably the same way as my 95 Accord. Pull down the boot from the **** so that you can see the stick itself (metal part), turn the **** counter clockwise, and you're done!
sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead but i have this problem with my 94 accord ex standard. i am trying to remove the shift boot and ****. i just cant figure it out. i can remove the whole center console (plastic that holds the radio and around the shifter) and i can see how to remove the boot (4 screws under the plastic) but i just cant take off the ****. i tried turning it counter clockwise and nothing. i can turn the whole vinyl around it but not the ****. and doesnt have any screws inside or out. any suggestions?

i have the same problem with my 96 accord. i can take off the boot, but the shift **** is so tight that it doesnt budge. if you end up finding out how to take it off, please let me know. thanx
i'm pretty sure you have to disconnect the boot from the **** first. i cant remember if you just have to pull down on it really hard or if it has to be turned clockwise (while holding the **** in place) but its one of those two. then like everyone else says you just unscrew it. i figured it out playing around in a parkinglot one day waiting for someone but dont remember exactly how to do it. its not hard though
i did it
you have to pull down on the top of the boot where the little chrome piece is. just pull really hard. i found it easer to do from the passenger side (idk why haha) then turn the **** counter clockwise. and remove the 4 screws under the boot. well i took it off but the shift boot i bought didnt fit the base so i just put everything back together how it was.
in my opinion get the boot custom made or make sure the bottom of the boot is really big to fit the base. universal ones dont fit
