FIFTH GEAR SWAP INTO CABLE YS1
Alright I have a Cable YS1, now here is were it gets leary. 2 Years ago i bought a Hydro Y21 tranny from a OBD1 JDM B16 swap and helped my buddy swap all the internals including the LSD into the USDM cable YS1 Casing From a 92-93 LS trans. Now after running this trans on an LS swapped 91 si hatch the final drive sucked on gas mileage. Now I have gotten an extra set of gears laying around from a 90-93 ls trans that are not the YS1 a believe they are USDM J1 or S1 gears. NOw will this 5th gear from the 90-93 trans fit onto the 92-95 Y21 Shafts or do I need to get a 5TH gear from a 94+ tranny. Thanks or all your help im just not sure what will fit and what wont. I have searched and posted in the Civic/Integra forums before but got nothing so if someone would be greatful enough to not be a ******** and tell me to search it would be great. Thanks Guys it is appreciated
well, i have no idea..
What i would do is measure the gear that is in there now for height, countershaft hole diameter, gear tip to gear tip diameter, depth of the teeth, tooth offset on the gear and then compare all of that info with the one that you want to put in. you should probably use a caliper measurement tool, digital or otherwise, and then compare results of the 2 sets of measurements.
i would bet that they are compatible.. but i have no idea.
the last step in all this is to report back to us so that WE know..

90-91 transmissions are different than 92-93 transmissions. So you cannot treat it as 90-93, there's a difference. There are two kinds of YS1 92-93 transmission (vtec and LS)
If you all you want to do is change your 5th gear, you can use any 5th gear from any 92- up b-series transmissions (later style cable or hydro -- all use compatible internals)
In your case, it sounds like you have a 90-91 gearset which shouldn't work on the newer tranny internals. You can of course just try it out and see if the gears will mount on to the shafts or not.

My Bad I guess i wasnt Clear The casing is a 92-93 YS1 casing meaning JUST THE CASE. The internals I swapped in are from a 92-95 Y21 gearbox. THe gears I have laying around are From a 90-91 LS gearbox i believe, is there a way i would tell if they are 90-91 or 92-93 by measureing the hole that the gear would slide onto the shaft let me know. So what you guys are saying is that I need LS gears from a 92 and UP gearbox in order to fit my shafts and work properly? Let me know so I could try this and reply back to anyone else who want to try this. Thanks guys
I'm Finally getting somewhere
