Default dumb newbie questions

Just got an 03 S2K with 24K on it. Love it. Never had a foreign car before.

Questions:

Some of these can probably be answered by the owner's manual, but none came with the car. So the first question is where can I purchase one?

Bought it from an Acura dealer, used. They changed the oil, and after I've driven it 500 miles, I checked the oil. Very clean, but only two dots above the "L" sign. Where should it be, and what is the capacity?

What's the best oil filter? Oil brand?

What's the best tire for the vehicle? I'll be driving it in rain, but not ice/snow, and I'm not racing anyone.

Is the coolant in the overflow best checked hot? I assume I should use extended life coolant?

Thanks for the patience, and if anyone has any old GM or Jeep questions, you can PM me

Tom

As far as the oil filter, I've always trusted Honda. You can get the owner's manual off of ebay probably, I would also get the service manual on PDF.

Its a CD with the entire Honda service manual (2K+ pages) on a giant PDF, its been worth more than its weight in gold.

oil filter-honda.
oil-most everybody will say mobil 1. I use royal purple or castrol syntec.
oil capacity- I'm pretty sure it's like 5.1 qts. I think that's what's in the manual

LOL I found that one. Had to open the obvious hatch and then the top hatch. Actually found the dipstick and fuel door release after 10 minutes each!

Owners' manuals are produced by a company; HELM Inc.

http://www.helminc.com

They produce manuals for many different brands. Only source for new Honda/Acuras.

OEM filters work great

5.1 qts

Tires- personal choice- Just like any other car. determine whats important to you.

cost
treadlife
ride quality
noise
mileage warranty (if applicable)

You might as well be asking people what the best color or music is. You are going to have to do some leg work on this yourself. Check out tirerack.com or some of the vendors on here.

Good luck

Thanks for the answers; what's the part # on the Honda filter? Also, how many dots above "L" should the dipstick read??

Thanks!

Two last questions. You all will enjoy this.

1. What kind of antifreeze? I'm guessing the long life anti freeze, or could I use plain old Prestone?

2. Umm, back to the tires. I was going 68mph on a straightaway last night, cruising, when I hit a rain storm. Felt a couple of slips, and before I could really slow down, I'm going backwards! Landed softly in the right shoulder (facing south on a northbound freeway), and rubbed my fender, door, quarter, and wheels against the guardrail. After a f-----g week with the car. The tires look worn but not like baloney skins. I'm no expert on judging the tread depth on a Z rated low profile tire. They look low tread new.

This weekend sucked.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm intact but quite a scraaaaaaaaaaape down the side of my s2k. They were the stock tires. I'm looking into some all seasons or AquaTreds...thanks for the advice on the antifreeze.

If you want decent all-season tires, try:

BF Goodridge KDW2
Bridgestone Potenza RE750
Toyo T1R/T1S

Is it true that if you replace the s02's that you need to get a different size to match the original "footprint" of the car?

Going with the potenza re750's.
