Default So I changed my alternator.....

Something was squeaking before I did it so I decided to go ahead and replace the belt too.....and now it squeals LOUD. The belt I took off of it was basically mangled on one side. Could this be a bad pulley now? And if so, how do I tell which one squeals like a banshee?

(H22a Prelude)

All positive feedback is appreciated.

First thing you need to do is tighten it really good and see if that gets rid of the squeal...

usually a quiet squeal is because the belt is too loose while a very loud squeal is because the belt is way to tight.

Yes, true true, you definately don't want it too tight. I guess I meant to say make sure it's tightened correctly...you should be able to twist the belt 90 degrees or so.
