which is the o2 sesor slot for the ECU in 88 civic

connecting the air fuel gauge wire to ecu...wont work!
im trying to make this stupid gauge work but when i tap into my o2 sensor wire in the ecu it just turns off...i take the wire off, and the gauge light is on but not getting signal, then i re attach the wire, and the gauge turns off...what is happening here?
