Default To take or no?

I have a family member that might gibve me her 99 stock automatic civic should i even put the money into it to make it a tuner, aka boost and stuff, would the automatic be the downfall. How much will that cost me and how long will it take, my brother is a mechanic. I know, my brother is a mchanic and he will be doing all the work i just have to buy parts.

rock it as a daily driver, or just get it from her and sell/trade it for a 240 if thats what you want, less work to just start with a manual then to do all the fabricating, imo
