Default selling questions

I'm thinking of selling my R but since I've never sold a car like this before, I have a few questions to ask.

At what point should a test drive be allowed?
Is the potential buyer's DL and a deposit sufficient for a test drive?
Is showing the car at your house inadvisable?

I know it's just an Integra and I'm probably being way too paranoid, but you can never be to safe. So, to all those who have sold or are in the process of selling their R, please chime in.

Have some product knowledge is my best tip.. when showing the vehicle dont just let them rip threw and look at it while you stand there, open the doors and go throughout everything, pop the mask and explain what it is equipped with and everything and be EXCITED. I'm only saying this because not everyone knows what the Type R is all about, right?

Selling things is a transfer of feelings, when someone sees someone excited about something , it usually breaks the barrier and opens them up and makes them want it.

This will help you sell it faster and take an indecisive buyer into a buyer.

I suggest you let the person take it for a testdrive, why? How ELSE are you going to build VALUE in a vehicle. Having to 15-20,000$ by just looking and hearing , your chances are slim. You want that person to know that they are getting their money worth and build value in the vehicle so they HAVE to have it.

Id suggest you let them cruise around in it and let them know not to be hard on it, give a 7k rpm limit or so, and then switch and YOU show them how the car really performs!

Have the car DETAILED everytime someone comes over!!

GLUCK!

PS- im putting mine in the autotrader next week aswell! i usually sell all my vehicles within a week.

That's really helpful. Maybe you should ask more for them.

I've certainly never sold an R before but here's a few thoughts...

1. When they have a significant down payment.
2. I assume you'd be with them on the test drive. Definitely rules for the test drive. Have them hand over to you a cash deposit that'll cover your insurance deductible should something happen.
3. Not at your house for initial showings. When they decide to buy and have funding locked, sure why not...

^^^^

You should qualify your buyer and ask those questions over the phone regarding financial things, before wasting your time.

It all depends on where you live. If you live in a less than desirable place, then no i would not meet them there.

If you have a garage or some where to keep the car, then I would not sweat it.

I would never buy a car where someone tried to make me give them cash before I drive or something like that... I know it is a Type R and all but not many people are going to give you a chunk of cash to drive the car as most are financing and don't have a large chunk to throw at it.

just my two cents and mine sold, but i was very motivated to do so.

Good luck with the sale man
